[edit] History

In the year 1925, Torres High School (THS), formerly called Legarda High School, was founded by James T. Burns. Accompanied by three teachers, Burns opened the school to various students who were refused to be admitted by other schools. It is that time when educating the youth began.

After a year, the same batch of students and teachers needed to transfer to a new site - the Syquia building at the foot of Pritil Bridge along Juan Luna Street. Since Juan Luna, Tondo is located in the western part of Manila, the school was renamed Manila West High School. Manila West High School produced its first batch of graduates in 1928, the same year when various clubs like Literary Club, to be continued..

[edit] Special Science Class Program

During Mrs. Rosita C. Herson's administration, the Special Science Class Program was revived. The Special Science Class has a science-oriented curriculum that focuses on Science and Technology, English and Mathematics.
