The Nov. 3, 1899 heavyweight boxing match in Coney Island between Tom Sharkey and Jim Jeffries was not "the first championship fight filmed for motion pictures."

The March 17, 1897 heavyweight championship in Carson City, Nevada between Bob Fitzsimmons and James J. Corbett was filmed and is considered the first championship fight filmed for motion pictures. Clips of the film still exist today and have been shown to audiences.
