[edit] Helpful and inclusive web page rejected - opinions requested

I put up a link on Wikipedia's Tillamook page to my web page for it, but it was rejected. It is an alphabetical directory of businesses in Tillamook. When I find that one of the businesses has a web site, I make a link to it for free. People find the network very useful and easy to use. I was told by a Wikipedia editor, however, that my page was inappropriate. In the interest of fairness and community, please have a look: Tillamook's Online Business Directory After all, there is no community without businesses to serve and support it. I was in the process of making a link back to Wikipedia from my Tillamook page, but I will have to wait on that to be sure it's reciprocal.

My web site is not "personal." It is copyrighted (since 2002), my business is registered with the State of Oregon, and I am a chamber of commerce member in my community. In addition to Tillamook, I have pages that serve 15 other communities, which cover the entire Oregon coast. I would love to share my work with the Wikipedia community.

I was told to talk about it here instead of resubmitting, but not how to have the editor reconsider their rejection. I'm new to Wikipedia, so I'd appreciate any constructive feedback about my submission or web page.

Without looking at your site I would say no based on two Wikipedia guidelines you will want to read: WP:COI & WP:WWIN. Aboutmovies 21:33, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] pronunciation

Is the last vowel ə, ʌ, or ʊ? kwami (talk) 09:50, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

My current settings don't support the characters listed above, but see http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary (looks like you'll have to search for "Tillamook"). Note that the sound file given seems to have more of a "muck" sound at the end, while I've always heard it pronounced "mook". Sorry I don't speak IPA, and I speak Pacific Northwest English with influences from the Midwest and South, so that's the best I can do! I can't really "hear" the difference in a lot of vowel sounds, so hopefully someone else can also help. Katr67 (talk) 20:32, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

If you're from the general area and confirm W's mook, that's enough to go on. (The symbols should now be visible.) kwami (talk) 22:28, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

I was raised in Tillamook and though I don't know the symbols, the oo is pronounced a lot like the oo in "shook," but quickly and without emphasis, which could make it sound a lot like a quick pronunciation of muck. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.112.21.183 (talk) 03:55, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
