[edit] New images of Southfield

I've uploaded new pics of Southfield Town Center - taken with a new camera, and at a different time of day than the previous set. I haven't found that "magic shot" yet of all 5 buildings. There's also some new pics of University of Michigan buildings too. See my page on commons. Parkerdr (talk) 04:37, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Another nice day today, so I shot some more of the Southfield skyline; getting closer to the 'magic shot'. Also, some pics from Bloomfield Hills which I"ve already added to some pages, e.g. Christ Church Cranbrook. Refer to the gallery on commons. Parkerdr (talk) 02:48, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the complements; I've lived in the area for 20+ years, but haven't explored around that much. Belle Isle is on the to-visit list, along with other areas here in the NW Detroit area. And i've always wondered about that Armenian church, and the mosques in Dearborn, etc. And (you know this) that these large medical complexes are hard to photograph. More challenges. I'll check out the websites you suggested also. Parkerdr (talk) 01:25, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Riverfront Towers

Thanks for fixing that issue. I thought it was rather strange that Riverfront Tower I was the same as Riverfront Towers - Tower 300! And nice work on the Michigan tallest buildings list. Cheers, Rai-me 22:18, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] detroit hit list for April visit

Hi Tom: As my Detroit photo output indicates, I have left Windsor for a good job in a nice part of Ontario, just north of Toronto. I see you have continued adding and editing material- and when I get a chance I enjoy trolling through the Metro Detroit articles. As fate has it, I will be spending 3-4 nights in the RenCen Marriott and the RenCen convention facilities in early April as part of my job. I plan on updating some photoes like the Book Cadillac, MotorCity, MGM, Fort Shelby etc.., plus getting stuff I always wanted to, but never had time, like the Detriot Free press building. If there are some buildings, statutes, neighbourhoods, etc.. you really want a shot of and haven't gotten any contributor to get it yet, let me know. Obviously I cannot gaurantee I will have time to get everything, but I am willing to take direction and fill in any gaps. Think about it- it will be about a month before I go, and try to describe locations or links for the less well known. Thanks, --Mike Russell 00:59, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

That's a wonderful list, I will enjoy just reading about the structures I am not yet familiar with before I go. I will drive down through Sarnia-P.H. so the Grosse Pointe sites will be easier to get- I never used to travel to the east side much in my normal routes when I lived in the area. There are lots of good things to get finally on Belle Isle too. Plus daylight savings time will help. I will let you know if I have any questions before I go. Feel free to add/amend the list before April 4th. We'll see how it goes. --Mike Russell 11:23, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Photo montage

I am definitely not an expert at it, but I could do something similiar to the London montage; it takes a little bit of time to size images neatly depending on what pictures are chosen, but it's fairly straight foward. If you have some pics in mind, I could play around to see what comes together, sort of speak.--Mike Russell 01:29, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

It is possible to put together a montage as a template.
Southfield Town Center, from the south, individual buildings, and from the Lawrence Technological University parking lot

Parkerdr (talk) 23:45, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Parkerdr's definitely good looking, and it can be very useful for interchanging other pictures into the template to mix and match a kind of limitless number of combinations- so its very useful besides being attractive and you can alter the template too to change widths and rows etc.. But the difference with the London montage is that the London picture must have been created outside wikipedia in some type of image editing software, something as simple as the Windows accessory "Paint" can build a cut and paste montage and save it as a complete image. Google's freeware Picasa can also be used to edit photos together and then saving it as one "new" image. Once created you just upload as 1 image with its own name and use it like a single photo as the London picture is. --Mike Russell 11:19, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Of course the other thing you can do to create a single image is to use a screeen capture software like Techsmith's (I think Techsmith is actually an Ann Arbor based software firm) Snagit. --Mike Russell 11:27, 15 March 2008 (UTC) Below is a sample of a screen capture that makes it all 1 photo.

Image:Techsmith montage capture Southfield MI.jpg

So, there are some options to get what you want... inside Wikipedia and outside; flexible and fixed....20:00, 15 March 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Parkerdr (talkcontribs)
I just noticed that the Techsmith version includes the caption, and there for you can't change it, and the "link" in it doesn't work. Perhaps Mike should regenerate it w/o the caption? Parkerdr (talk) 19:58, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
That would be good. Perhaps keep the message and just regenerate it without the blue link. Really like the techsmith and photo montage concept, it turned out nice. I used the techsmith version in the architecture article. Even so, there are links to the Town Center in the architecture article and people can locate Lawrence Tech. Perhaps we can come up with other techsmiths and/or as a table/template. Thomas Paine1776 (talk) 23:34, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
More montages? ok, but I don't know which subjects it would benefit. (and I don't have the techsmith tool, so I can't help there) Parkerdr (talk) 17:03, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New church pics

see recent pics on: Felician Sisters‎, Madonna University‎, St. John Armenian Church, Southfield, Michigan. More views on my gallery page on commons. Parkerdr (talk) 01:08, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

there are pics of Word of Faith, Southfield - Image:SouthfieldMiWordofFaithChapelSouth.jpg and Image:SouthfieldMiWordofFaithChapelEntrance.jpg Parkerdr (talk) 02:23, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair Lane, Dearborn

New pics available of Fair Lane, see also category page on Commons. Also, some UofM Dearboarn shots, but not so impressive. Parkerdr (talk) 13:36, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for keeping me updated.Thomas Paine1776 (talk) 19:35, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
This is fun... it's mostly getting off of the freeway and looking at things (incl buildings) differently after being here 20+ years. Now, to get more of the pics you suggested, it means going to into completely new areas - I don't think I've ever been to Belle Isle. Parkerdr (talk) 01:44, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New D pics coming soon

I drew a Grosse pointe blank on my trip, went through Windsor and never drove up to Grosse Pointe. The gate below is the best shot I got of it, they were having and impeach the Mayor rally just across the street and parking was impossible. I have many other photos though, besides the Belle Isle ones, and several from the list you asked after, so when I get more free time I will add some others, but as for the gate- the best and only is below.

[edit] Architecture of metropolitan Detroit

Please don't re-add so many images to Architecture of metropolitan Detroit. The article had far too many images, it renders absolutely terrible in Firefox - there was tons of whitespace at the end of almost every section, in some cases more whitespace than text. Some sections had so many images that they were completely placed into the following section (where no <br clear=all> was used). I use a very high-resolution monitor as well, on lower res screens it would probbaly look much worse, especially with so many thumbnails with hardcoded size, which doesn't allow users' preferences to set the size of the images they see. The galleries on Wikimedia Commons exist specifically for this purpose. I think some of the images in the article are also used in the text and the galleries at the bottom. Mr.Z-man 01:43, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for adding the media commons. The number of images has been reduced, but some of them are necessary to illustrate the content. A few monitors out there have extra wide screens, if that's what you mean by white space. Thomas Paine1776 (talk) 01:51, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Another thought, perhaps a small gallery at the end of each section instead of a bunch of inline thumbnails for sections that have more than a couple images. Mr.Z-man 03:52, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Mary Chase Perry Stratton and Pewabic Pottery

Dear Thomas Paine 1776: I notice you've been contributing to these articles. I wanted to encourage you to continue. Additionally, I have received an e-mail from Thomas Brunk, who is the chief chronicler of the two subjects, and he offered several suggestions concerning the articles. If you are interested, let me know. I could forward them to you via e-mail if you are interested. Best regards. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 01:57, 3 June 2008 (UTC) Stan

[edit] List of museums in Michigan

Hello, I have been working on creating complete lists of museums for various states. Several other users and I have been using a sortable table format, which allows for users to sort the complete list by name, town, region and type of museum. See List of museums in Connecticut for a list I worked on. I see you have added many museums to the Michigan list, along with another user. Can I convert your listing into a sortable table? I would also like to add website links for museums without an existing Wikipedia article. I did not want to do this without notifying you, in case you have a different concept.
