[edit] shortcut for citing sources?

Hello Dewster, Thanks for your welcoming message. I'd like to ask you for some help regarding citations. Instead of typing out references in the format I've found in other articles, i.e., XXXX, XXXXX. "[XXXXX XXXXX]", XXXXX, XXXX. Retrieved on XXXXX.  - isn't there a shortcut that can save a lot of time? I'm looking for one keystroke or perhaps a combination of keystrokes that will automatically set out the whole format of the citation, with the only necessary work being to fill in the details. And it there isn't such a shortcut, shouldn't there be one? Thanks, SelfEvidentTruths (talk) 04:50, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] More on Shortcuts for Citing Sources

Thanks, but my question was a bit different. I guess I didn't explain myself well. Currently, in the editing mode, on top of the editing window there is a line of editing buttons - the last one being the REF-HREF button. When you click that button, this is what appears: symbol-ref-symbol-Insert footnote text here-sybmol-/REF-sybmol But this is really no help at all since you have to write out the whole citation form with all the different values, i.e. in place of the words "Insert footnote text here" you have start writing out the whole footnote format - you actually have to write out the words "last=" and "first=" and "title=" and "Url=" and "publisher=" and "date=" and "accessdate=" I'm just looking for a shortcut that will automatically put all those words there for me, and the only thing I'll have to do is fill in the correct values for each field. It seems so basic. In MS-Word there is that function. Another words, you can define that whenever you type a certain sequence, e.g., *ref - the computer will automatically generate the following words "last= |first= |title= |" etc. Why can't it be done in Wikipedia editing?
