MY MATES: ALI M, CHRIS J, JAMES F, JAMES MAY, LAUREN, CHRISTINA, BONNIE, NICK, HANNAH, SIMON AND MANY MORE
Hi I'm Mat Dewey A.K.A Thedewster. I am 14 and live in the village of Barton Stacey, Hampshire.
I like to generally edit wiki articles in whatever form. These are mainly minor edits however sometimes as with my current project they maybe major. As you may be able to tell from my user boxes I support Liverpool fc and enjoy many activities on the internet including Bebo, eBay and MSN. I like to play football and play for South Wonston Swifts. I also like to swim and compete and train with Andover SC.
[edit] Me and Wikipedia
Throughout my time as a wikipdian the different jobs/tasks i have taken on (whether they be set by another wikipdian or myself) have changed dramatically. One day in late April 2007 i was sat in frnt of the computer wondering what i could embark on next as i had just finished the long but very interesting task of completing all of the campaigns on Age Of Empires 3 (AOE3). I had some homework to do so i researched the subject on wikipedia as i normally do to get some background info on what ever I'm doing. It must have been on Barton Stacey or something to do with the wonderful little village as this was the first page i edited with Thedewster. I found the article and all it consisted of was two lines. A typical country village stub. I was appalled that no one had added more information. So i had found my first and second tasks within one article. 1 to become a wikipedian and 2 to inform the wiki community about the village of Barton Stacey. After i developed the article Barton Stacey into a reasonable state i was rather lost for what to do. I made the odd edit here and there to Liverpool FC and Runescape. The later of which i am rather embarrassed about having edited. This may just be a teen popularity thing as Runescapers i know are shunned but i just had to correct the obvious mistakes and expand on some of the short sections.(note at this point in time i was a keen Runescaper myself however since Christmas 2007 i have ceased playing). Whether this was because of the updates Jagex had made or my sudden want to contribute solely to wikipedia. I do not know. My Wiki activity between June 2007 and December 2007 was pretty none existent with me only making a total of 26 edits in 7 months (thats an average of 3.7 edits a month!) slightly poor i think. These edits as far as i can recall were to my user and talk pages and maybe one or two may have been contributions to Barton Stacey, Liverpool FC or Runescape. At the turn of the year i seemed to have a sudden urge to contribute to wikipedia. How, i did not know. Why, i did not know either but i was going to whether i liked it or not. I promise you this was not a new years resolution. It may have had something to do with my parents asking me to read more. As i chose to become a random article patroller so that i had to read the articles for mistakes etc. This soon led to becoming a member of the Typo Team as mistyped words were also a common mistake i found. The tool i used (and still do) to make this a much speedier and easier process was (and agian still is) a life saver. The software is called ieSpell by Red Egg. During January this was my main focus and i made a whopping 91 edits. I know it doesn't sound much but compared to the 73 edits i had made in the 9 months before it was a massive jump. Little was i to no this amount was nothing to compare with my edit count of February. At the start of the month i carried on my task of random page patroller and my edit count slowly edged up. During this task i came across more patrolling posts in the areas of Recent Changes and New Pages. I took these in my stride and therefore dropped myself in the realms of Speedy deletion. Some users i know get a buzz out of getting articles deleted when they have nominated them for speedy deletion. I dint know if i got a buzz out of it (and to this day im still not sure) but it is certainly nice to know your efforts are being recognised. My current task that i am deeply involved in i found again through another of my projects/tasks. This time it was through the speedy deletion task i had undertaken. I had noticed that alot of the articles i was nominating were created by new user who hadn't yet been welcomed by an experienced user. So i dug around to see if there was some kind of project involved with welcoming new users. Low and behold there it was The Welcoming Committee. I joined immediately wanting to help welcome inexperienced and new users with my new wealth of wiki knowledge. To start with i used the basic template recommended and pasted that onto the new users pages and wrote my own edit summary. At the end of the month i found something that has transformed my wiki editing for ever! Java Script, which can be placed in your Monobook subpage. This enabled me to place new tabs on my editing screen enabling me to place my welcome templates and much more on pages without having to type a thing. The hassle that has saved. Well i am still well on task with having welcomed over 1,000 new wikipedians in February alone. I am involved in other projects as shown below. In the mix of all this i managed to adopt a user. The adoption project is one of the best projects around almost as good as the welcoming committee. I adopted the user EGGNOG107* i help him in what ever areas he asks me to. I would point all experienced wikipedians in the direction of the adoption project.

Geographical Coordinates Project Goals
Should provide a uniform markup for all geographic coordinates
Should provide a user-preferred appearance for all geographic coordinates
Markup should be easy and natural to use
Should be able to have a uniform, extensible way of accessing all types of map resources, avoiding having direct external links to maps in articles
Clicking on a reference navigates directly to a page with external pointers to various resources, with coordinates automatically embedded where possible. The resources can be maps of various kinds, topological charts, satellite photos and others.
Create a database of points, enabling generation of navigatable maps with a clickable icon appearing for every location for which there is a Wikipedia article. This has been implemented for NASA World Wind, Google Earth (see below) and Google maps (see below).
Serve as a tool for finding Wikipedia articles describing nearby locations. See also meta:Wikipediatlas.
Adhere to existing Internet standards for geographic coordinates as far as possible
