Are you a world citizen? Well, you will be after you've reached the highest rank of this challenge...

Important: Not for wimps or the feint of heart.

Attention AWB users, Linky users, and advanced tool users in general... This challenge is for you! Get out your toys!

'Warning: Wikitools and advanced wikiskills are highly recommended for this challenge, but are not absolutely required - you could learn them along the way, if you have what it takes. Do you?

The object of this challenge is to virtually "travel the world". During your journey, you will be helping to build a navigation aid that will allow Wikipedia's readers to easily follow in your path so that they can effortlessly visit all the countries of the world, or explore whatever country they desire without ever leaving their computers.

[edit] Overview

In the Wikipedia World Development Tasks section below, there are a number of chores, each one to be completed on a batch of over 200 pages! Each chore entails visually checking all 211 pages and making a specific change to each page as needed (fixing the same item on each page). Each article is related to a country, and for the purposes of this contest, processing each page is like visiting the country that page is about. The batch of pages is listed at User:Sharkface217/Award Center/List batch

[edit] Wikipedia World Traveller Award
Once you have "visited" each country (by completing the chore on each page in the batch), if your work is deemed satisfactory you will be granted the Wikipedia World Traveller Award. Every participant who achieves this will receive one. For each additional chore you complete to the entire batch of pages, your Award will be upgraded, and also its statement of how many times you have "traveled the world" on Wikipedia will be increased by one.

[edit] World Development Award Winners (monthly)
Each month throughout this competition, the contestant completing the most assigned tasks in a month will receive a World Development Award. The winner will also be announced on this page and on the Community bulletin board.

[edit] World Champion
The biggest prize of this competition, the World Navigator Champion Trophy, gets to be displayed by whichever user currently holds the record for completing the most assigned tasks in this competition. The trophy will be awarded initially 30 days into the competition. When a record gets beaten (not tied), the trophy is transferred to the new champion. Chores will continue to be added to the chore list until the pages are fully developed (this will be announced by the competition organizers). When the competition is over, the reigning champion will have the honor of keeping the trophy.

[edit] Wikipedia World Development Tasks

A type of task that appears multiple times in the list below is "Blue link". Unless otherwise specified in the task description, this means click on the redlink to be bluelinked, and create a redirect to the appropriate content on Wikipedia - even if that content is in a section of a page. (Redirects can include it is a section. Most of the topics listed for each country are covered on Wikipedia somewhere, and the links provided need to link there. The reason we are using redirects is so that there is a standard set of links for each topic for all the countries on the list - they will be extremely useful in the future for making lists, templates, etc. Unless otherwise specified, do not replace the redlink with a direct link to the topic.

These are the chores to be assigned to contestants (see Overview and Competition rules above). Chores will continue to be added to this list until the pages are fully developed.

  • location of Russia
    location of Russia
Each page is supposed to include a location map, but many of them are redlinked. For those that are redlinked, replace the incorrect image name with the correct one. It should be an svg image similar in color to the one at the right. If no .svg location map exists for a country, use a .png location map instead. A location map is included on most country articles (e.g., see Chad). If an svg location map isn't used on the main article, you may find one at Wikimedia Commons (type the country name into the search box there).
  • The country's flag is generally displayed to the right of the TOC. But many of them are redlinked. Replace the image name causing the redlink with the correct image name - the country flag can usually be found on the country's article.
  • The coat of arms for the country should be displayed next to the flag in the double box to the right of the TOC. Replace the redlinked ones with the correct image name - they can be found on each country's article, or at Gallery of country coats of arms.
  • Add a lead paragraph: copy the first paragraph of the lead from each corresponding country article to the beginning of each page. Linkify the name of the country at the beginning of the paragraph - make sure it matches the article (i.e., not an alternate name for the country).
  • Add a general map of the country, preferably just under the flag and coat of arms to the right of the TOC. .
  • Add a satellite photograph or topographical map of the country, at the top of the Geography section .
  • A few of the countries aren't sovereign nations, and the "_________ is: a country" entry (at the top of the Geography section) needs to be corrected. For example, see List of basic Isle of Man topics.
  • Find and add a cultural image to each page, at the beginning of the culture section, using the format . (Replace "caption" with a brief description what the picture presents).
