[edit] 1313 Mockingbird Ln., Mockingbird Heights
While the Munsters are monsters, they all consider themselves to be human beings (as is references in numerous episodes). Lily and Grandpa have both states on many occasions that they are dead, but Eddie and Herman (and Marilyn) are not. Even so, in Episode 30 Herman makes it clear that they are immortal.
- Herman "Hermy" Munster (Hermann), a monster created from human corpses by Viktor Frankenstein, Ph.D. Construction on his body began in 1815 at the University of Heidelberg and was completed on October 20, c. 1850. Though constructed in Germany, he and his twin brother Karlmann were adopted by the Munsters, an Irish family living in England. He later moved to Transylvania, where he met Liliana Drăculea (that is, Lily Munster), whom he married in 1865. Herman is 7 ft. 3 in., weighs from 380 to 390 lb. (a weight that varies slightly from one episode to another), and is called "pussy-cat" by his wife. (Fred Gwynne)
- Lily Munster (Liliana Drăculea), a female vampire and the daughter of Count Dracula. Born in 1827, she, Herman, and the count lived in Transylvania for a long while before moving to America. Lily always wheres the same outfit, a white dress with a bat-like veil made from black widows' webs, with a black underslip made from unborn centipedes, and a metalic bat necklace. Whenever the Munsters go out, she wears a grey-green cloak made from coffin lining. (Yvonne De Carlo)
- Ct. Samuel "Grandpa" Dracula (Samuel Drăculea voievod), a vampire born in 1367. Grandpa was a count back in Transylvania, which he refers to as "the old country". Though his nobility holds little meaning in America, he still wears a medallion around his neck bearing the Dracula family crest. Grandpa has been married 167 times, but seems to hold Lily's mother in special esteem (her body is kept in a sarcophagus in the attic). While Grandpa often makes comments on his past in reference to historical people and events (Elizabeth Taylor, the Black Plague, Abraham Lincoln, the French Revolution), he has more than once taken responsibility for the Battle of Waterloo (apparently he advised Napoleon to take Waterloo as a short cut). (Al Lewis)
- Edward Wolfgang "Eddie" Munster, the werewolf son of Herman and Lily born in 1954 (he is ten years old). (Butch Patrick)
- Marilyn Munster (née Mundane), the human daughter of Lily's sister. (Beverley Owen/Pat Priest/Debbie Watson)
- an invisible, silent companion to the count who drives the family hearse, plays the Munster harp, and acts as Grandpa's opponent at chess.
[edit] Tertiary characters
[edit] On the Munster side
- Charles Munster (Karlmann), a monster created from the same human corpses as Herman, and thus Herman's twin. When Herman left for Transylvania, Charles remained in England. He is into get-rich-quick schemes, and often engages in scam artistry.
- Johann, Herman's corpse-begotten cousin.
- Viktor Frankenstein, Ph.D., a (now deceased) German scientist. At Herman and Lily's wedding, Frankenstein gave Herman away "with his blueprints."
[edit] On the Dracula side
- Ct. Lester Dracula (contele Ladislau Drăculea), Lily's brother and a classy, if not financially responsible, werewolf. (Irwin Charone)
- Marilyn's deceased sister and brother-in-law (the Mundanes).
- Grandma, the mummy of Lily's mother and Sam's favorite wife which is kept in the Munster house.
- Sam's 167/140 wives.
- Lily's grandmother, who has died more than once and the last time left $5,000.00 for Lily (episode 9). It is strongly hinted that she is a vampire.
- Uncle Gilbert "Gillie", a British-educated gill-man from the Black Lagoon in Transylvania.
- Uncle George (Gheorghe), Grandpa's uncle; he was hanged, but whether or not this killed him is never mentioned.
- Cousin Ronald, Grandpa's cousin.
- Cousin Humphrey (Hunfrid Drăculea), a deceased cousin of Grandpa's (and now a ghost).
- Cousin Phantom, their cousin and the Phantom of the Opera.
[edit] Pets
- Igor, Grandpa's pet bat. Igor came over with the Munsters from Transylvania.
- Spot/Spotty, Eddie's pet dragon who lives under the stairs. Spot has dorsal plates, a thagomizer, and apparently some fur; he has glowing eyes and breaths fire through his nostrils. Dug up by Grandpa, he is the last of his species, the rest having gone into extinction.
- Charlie, a raven who lives in the Munster's cuckoo clock and quotes Edgar Alan Poe. (Mel Blanc/Bob Hastings)
- Kitty, a black cat that roars like a lion and drinks enormous amounts of milk.
- "Woof-woof", Eddie's stuffed animal werewolf.
- a carnivorous goldfish.
- giant pet vultures (never shown, but referred to) which lay enormous eggs that the Munsters refrigerate and use.
[edit] Recurring characters
- Yolanda "Yo-yo" Cribbins, the neighbor lady. (Claire Carleton)
- Warren Bloom, the mailman. (John Fiedler)
- Mr. Gateman, the sole proprietor of Gateman, Goodbury, & Graves Funeral Parlor. (John Carradine)
- Edward Howard Dudley, M.D., the Munster's doctor. (Paul Lynde/Dom DeLuise)
- Mrs. Dudley, Edward Dudley's wife.
- Elmer Dudley, Eddie's best friend.
- Ms. Fairchild, Mr. Dudley's secretary. (Alice Backes)
- Clyde Thornton, Herman's coworker. (Chet Stratton)
