The Scrolls is the working name of an American eight-piece supergroup. The members of the octet are Sean Watkins (guitar), Sara Watkins (fiddle), Glen Phillips (guitar), Benmont Tench (piano), Luke Bulla (fiddle), Greg Leisz (various instruments), Pete Thomas (drums), and Davey Faragher (bass).[1] The group is comprised of members of Nickel Creek, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello and the Imposters, and Toad the Wet Sprocket.

The project started in September 2007, when The Scrolls began to record songs for an upcoming album release. In Sara Watkins' December 2007 MySpace blog, she said "we're hoping to nearly (finish) the record in the next few days. We're tracking live and trying to get as much down at one time as possible. It is a very satisfying way to record".[2] The octet plans to have an album out by fall of this year. some of the tracks recorded for possible inclusion on the upcoming release include the Phillips penned tracks "Rise Up", "Always Have My Love", "Make Me Forget", "Better Off Here" and "End This Now", as well as a Luke Bulla/Glen Phillips colaboration entitled "Cry For You", which can be heard streaming on Luke's myspace page[1]

Throughout 2008 concerts, Phillips noted - while playing some of the new content - that the final group name had not yet been decided. In fact, he openly solicited ideas from the crowd multiple times.
