"The Metal" is a song by Tenacious D from their 2006 album The Pick of Destiny. The album was a soundtrack for the film. The song is played during the end credits of the film and is the final track on the album.
Tenacious D plays "The Metal" regularly at concerts and the song is always accompanied by a dancing armored figure representing the metal. Jack often makes a scene of fighting and dancing with the figure. He is always beaten because "the metal was much too strong."
The song appeared in the video game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock as a 6th tier song out of 8.
On December 2, 2006, Tenacious D performed both "Kickapoo" and "The Metal" as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.[1]

The song tries to, albeit in a slightly comical way, prove that "You can't kill the Metal" by chronicling how some other genres of music tried to destroy The Metal and how they failed. For example: "New Wave tried to kill The Metal, but they failed, as they were stricken down to the ground." Other genres included in this song are punk rock, techno and grunge.
