The Landmark (Toronto)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Landmark is a new retail commercial condominium project underway in northeast Toronto. The Chinese-theme mall will become one of the largest Asian malls in the Greater Toronto Area .
This will be the first major Chinese theme mall to be built since the late 1990s (one of two in the City of Toronto proper) and after a period of retail saturation in the GTA. The development also expands the GTA's Chinatown boundaries eastward to Markham Road.
The mall is being built on former farmland on Steeles Avenue west of Markham Road and will cater to mixed Chinese and local shoppers. The complex's name is a play on the The Landmark, which is also a retail commercial mall in Hong Kong. The complex will consist of:
- The Landmark 500 store indoor commercial mall
- Square at the Landmark commercial plaza consisting of 6 buildings
The Landmark will be surrounded by other retail developments such as:
- Walmart
- Lowes - second store in Toronto for the American based home improvement retailer (the first opened at the corner of Caledonia Road and Castlefield Avenue in the former city of York).
- T & T Supermarket and Milliken Crossing shopping centre, on the western edge of the project.
