The Daily Reveille

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Daily Reveille is the student newspaper for Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It prints Monday through Friday during the fall and spring semesters, and twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) during the summer semester with a daily circulation of about 14,500 copies Monday through Thursday and a slightly decreased circulation on Fridays. The production of the newspaper is entirely student-run and is independent from the University.

The newspaper first began publication at LSU's Pineville campus in 1872, and produced off and on until January of 1897, when The Daily Reveille began continuous publication, and eventually became one of the South's only daily college newspapers. In 1951, The Daily Reveille dropped to a four-day-a-week paper during the Korean War and remained that way until August of 2002. In the late 1990s, The Daily Reveille’s editors chose to remove “Daily” from the name.

In 2002, the newspaper resumed Monday through Friday publication and increased the amount of color allotted inside the newspaper. In 2005, editors completed a redesign and added "Daily" back to the name. Princeton Review named The Daily Reveille as the twelfth best college newspaper in the nation in its 2008 edition of The Best 361 Colleges.[The Daily Reveille won a Pacemaker Award in 2003. It is staffed by an all-student workforce of more than 80 members from diverse majors and backgrounds.
