[edit] Plot

A comedy centered on the life and work of therapist Bill Pearson (Bill Engvall) in suburban Denver, Colorado.

Engvall plays Bill Pearson, a family counselor who can’t always figure out his own family. Nancy Travis (Becker, The Jane Austen Book Club) co-stars as his wife, while Tim Meadows (Saturday Night Live, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) plays his best friend. The series also features the Pearson children, played by Jennifer Lawrence (The Burning Plain), Graham Patrick Martin (The Girl Next Door) and Skyler Gisondo (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story).

Set in a Denver suburb, Engvall and Travis offer a humorous look at what it takes to be a parent in today’s world. They face parenting issues like allowance controversies, driver’s licenses and parking tickets, all while trying to keep the spark alive in their marriage and balancing work with family life.

“One of the things I talk about in my act is that, as a parent, all you’re basically doing is keeping a lid on things until the kids go to college,” Engvall says. “I want my show to be a reflection of real life and the real issues that parents and kids face each day.”

Teenage daughter Lauren (Lawrence) is a typical high-school girl who is trying to find her way through classes and dating. Sports fan and video-gamer Trent (Martin) is the middle child. Musically talented neat-freak Bryan (Gisondo) is the resident baby and genius of the family.

Bill works in the same building as his closest friend, Paul Dufrayne (Meadows). Paul is a renowned hair-replacement specialist who is treated like part of the Pearson family. Paul likes to look good and is into the latest technology, but he’s unlucky in love.

[edit] Characters

  • Bill Pearson (Bill Engvall) - A family counselor whose family needs some help as well.
  • Susan Pearson (née Murray) (Nancy Travis) - Bill's witty and loving wife. She always tries to keep the family together.
  • Lauren Pearson (Jennifer Lawrence) - Bill and Susan's daughter. She is the eldest and is the leader when the kids scheme and plan.
  • Trent Pearson (Graham Patrick Martin) - Bill and Susan's older son. He loves sports and video games. Trent can be very witty (usually only for helping himself, however), though he is often apathetic and zoned out.
  • Bryan Pearson (Skyler Gisondo) - Bill and Susan's younger son. He's a musically talented young man who owns a pet snake. A bit on the "odd" side, Bryan doesn't hide his unusual understanding of anatomy (though is ignorant about reproduction) and human physiology. He also has minor interest in geology.
  • Tim (Bob Bledsoe)
  • Bob Spoonerman (Steve Hytner) - A patient of Bill Pearson, and a perverted friend. He is also a podiatrist.
  • Don (Jay Knowlton)
  • Mr. Pratt (Leslie Odom Jr.)
  • Paul (Tim Meadows) - One of Bill's best friends since the 1980s. Originally wanted to be a doctor, as seen in the episode "How Bill Met Susan".
