This user account is a bot operated by CBM (talk).

It is not a sock puppet, but rather an automated or semi-automated account for making repetitive edits that would be extremely tedious to do manually.
Administrators: if this bot is malfunctioning or causing harm, please block it.

This account is named in honor of Oswald Veblen.

[edit] Tasks

  1. WikiProject Mathematics article ratings (task request). Updated at 1am UTC daily. The main table is at /MainTable.
  2. Wikipedia:Release Version article ratings (task request). Updated at 2am UTC daily. The main table is at /Version 0.7/MainTable
  3. Table of protected edit requests (task request). The table at /PERtable is updated every half hour.
  4. General editing (task request). Replace templates or perform other one-time editing jobs.
  5. Maintain lists of category contents (task request). Updated 10 minutes past the hour.
  6. Make announcements for pages marked as policies or guidelines (task request). Runs around 18:52 UTC daily.

VeblenBot's code is written in perl and published in svn on the toolserver. It can be browsed online starting at http://fisheye.ts.wikimedia.org/browse/cbm.

To download the Mediawiki::API and Mediawiki::Edit modules, run

where PROJECT can be:

  • categories - make lists of category contents
  • math - assessment tables for the mathematics project
  • per - table of protected edit requests
  • policies - announcements of pages marked as policy
