[edit] Thesaban Tambon translation
What is the best english translation of thesaban tambon? I choosed the term township, to distinguish it from town (which fits best with thesaban mueang). An IP user changed it to be "village" - which is IMHO not good, as village is the common translation of muban, a different entity, and "village municipality" is a bit long. Another translation might be "commune municipality" (used in Amphoe Mueang Nonthaburi), which would fit with the common translation of tambon, but is also quite long. Other one found on the web is "sub-district municipality" - also not good as subdistrict is both used for tambon and King Amphoe. Is there anything official? There's hardly any english information of the thesaban available on the net to help with this article. Interestingly the only go.th-website using the term "thesaban tambon" is [1], which is a (uncredited) copy of a wikipedia article :-) andy 11:12, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- But it seems "subdistrict municipality" is becoming the standard, see my blog. andy (talk) 21:05, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Up-to-date list of thesaban
See Talk:Amphoe Hat Yai - is there any Thai website which shows complete lists of all the thesaban with their current status? The best I know so far is the annual statistics at DOPA - but there we have to wait for one year till we see any status changes or newly created thesaban. andy 11:41, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- With quite some delay the Royal Gazette (http://www.ratchakitcha.soc.go.th/RKJ/announce/search.jsp) is the authoritative source - but especially for the thesaban the publication of the changes takes up to a year after being effective. andy (talk) 21:05, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
