[edit] Deletion of "The Godfather films in popular culture" under consideration

Fans of The Godfather may wish to participate in the AfD debate concerning whether the article The Godfather films in popular culture, which was spun off from this article to keep it from being too unwieldy, should be deleted. That debate can be found here. The article in question provides a place for people to note instances which illustrate the continuing influence of The Godfather and its sequels on films, TV shows and other popular culture media. [edit] Copyright, Release, etc

I'm concerned about copyright on this page. A large block of text taken from elsewhere was inserted and later rewritten, but it still smells much like the original text.

I'm going to delete the text which descends from the original copyright violation. The page where I found the text (which I suspect is taken directly from the game or a press release): http://www.mediadis.com/games/detail.asp?id=150720

According to the official EA site, the release date is March 24, not 21. Darth Everent 17:29, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
All recent Godfather trailers on the website ended with the release date as the 21st and a news update was posted on the 22nd noting the game's release (but this is all moot now) --Colonel Cow 02:39, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

I Think there should be a section on the diference of the movie and game ex: the Horse scene happened after the don was hospitalised.

How about some info about EA's budget, behind the scenes info on the development of the game, etc Tehw1k1 23:40, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

The trivia about Pacino refusing should be checked. I believe he already had an agreement for the Scarface game which would have prevented him from appearing in other games. Please fact check this. Lgascoig 14:32, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Coppola Denounces

I remember before the game was released that Coppola denounced it siting that he felt they were making money off of his work. Should this be mentioned somehwere in the article (personally I find it to be interesting trivia) :: ehmjay 22:20, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

I will add this --Uzzo2 01:33, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Trapani?

What? where in the game does it say your players name is Trapani?

Late in the game, when your character takes out some corrupt police bigwig, there's a bulletin board above his desk with various overlapping newspaper clippings and photos. Somewhere in there is your picture, and although the first name is obscured, "Trapani" is clearly visible as the last name.Raider Duck 04:36, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

In the beggining of the game when you make up the name of the character the default name is ALDO! The Architect 01 01:23, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

His name could possibly be Aldo Trapani.

No no, definitely not, Trapani means something, it has some significance.Billy Bishop 19:33, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

When you go to the bakery in Little Italy that was shown in the prelude being blown up by the Barzinis. The name of the bakery store is 'Trapani's Bakery'. And the fomer owner of the bakery is the your character's father Johnny. Hope this helps. :o)

In the mission when Monk whacks the rat and you see you're character face on the family tree it says Trapani under you're name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.105.63.243 (talk) 06:11, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Critisism section should list complaints from the owners of the game too, displeased owners of the game like me.

This section contains poorly written commentary. Cleanup is suggusted.

  • There are so many other critisism's to this game that are not listed in this game, such as the terrible weapon sizes and capabilities, such as the Tommy Gun being extreamly small and weaker than the Colt 45. pistol, since they fire the same ammo, the Tommy Gun should be more powerful, since the larger size and barrel. The magnum is the best weapon in the game, but that is rediculous, magnums dont have as much power as a rifle, it should suck, the shotgun is laughfalbly small, and also does not have as much power as the UNBEATABLE MAGNUM. Also besides that, the upgrades also are not realistic, for the tommy gun, the final upgrade makes it look gay, and the cut off barrel, box magazing instead of a drum magazine, and removed stock would make the gun terrible, reducing the accuracy tramatically, it would suck, the final shot gun upgrade, the "street sweeper" goes the smae, it would be horrible, and it to looks gay.
  • All the guns are not there real size they would be in real life, they are all really small and look terrible, not to mention they do not follow the God Father, Ive never seen a stupid ass little bitch Golden pistol in ANY of the godfather movies, and NO FAGNUMS either, and no cut off sawed off shotguns, called "street sweeper's". No "dillingers" wich suck, and somehow have more ammo than a drum magazine. No "assassin pistols" and the tommy guns in that movie were not miniature pieces of crap.
  • Not to mention, the are no "gang colors" in the god father movie, but there is in the game, this makes no sense, when did the mafia EVER signify each other by wearing a green or red suit? NEVER! this is rediculous, and stupid, This game does not follow the God Father at all, it makes up crap. And the police never used 38.'s, they used shot guns and tommy guns, and 45.'s at the time, in order to fight the mafia's arsenal of weapons.
  • The size of New York in this game is terrible, its so small, and if look closely at the map, youll see the outlines of streets that the idiotic game creators left out, it looks NOTHING LIKE NEW YORK OR NEW JERSEY OR WHATEVER.
  • not only that, but the game a limited selection of cars, so limited in fact that I saw all of the cars in the game in a matter of minutes after I started playing the game, except the car you get while doing missions, the car that is always black and you drive with sonny in.
  • All in al, this game blows, there is no way anyone could like this game to be cool in, the only fun thing to do is to make a loser and be him, like a big fat guy thats ugly as hell or whatever, and make him use those gay weapons and be in the lame stroyline, and whats up with Micheal Coreleone, he looks nothing like him the in the game, nothing like him at all, at first I couldnt even tell thats him.
God you're annoying as fuck, although you do have some valid points buried underneath that pile of deranged, barely-cohrent ranting you just spouted. Just play Mafia instead. - 81.178.102.118 11:07, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

I think both of you need to calm down and not take gaming so seriously. I play lots of video games. But I'm not a fat nerd who sits around and flames games because they aren't realitsic. Actually, since you've probably never walked past the Blockbuster down the street, let alone went to a hunting camp, so you wouldn't know this, but Magnums are damn good weapons. And what do you mean the shotgun is too small, are you like, blind. Most military grade shotguns as well as a majority of hunting shotguns are about that size. And in real life, Tommy Guns do suck, you can't aim with them, and Magnums ARE better because you can actually aim at something instead of firing randomly at it. Go to camp or something, in fact, you could've found this info if your fingers [the only part of your body that ever gets any exercise] would type in the approrite words in Wikipedia. Also. Look at WP:NOT for reasons why this has NOTHING to do with the article FinalWish 04:00, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

that asshole is a stupid fucker. police in New York in the 1930s-1960s HAD 38s!! live in New York and then talk shit. Cops stopped using 38s in the 60s or 70s.

I think that the Frankie plotline should be mentioned as terrible. At the ign board it was criticized. You see her in one mission, then don't see her for awhile. Then she randomly moves in with you only to be killed off. That was random and underdeveloped. 63.226.152.65 03:35, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

"God you're annoying as fuck"

Ok we can admit the game wasnt perfect and had many flaws like repetive design buildings and cars however it made good uses of meele combat and true to the storyline and the PS3 and Xbox 360 version are vastly improved upon so eaze off the game LOL --Uzzo2 05:50, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cleanup

I've removed a lot of sections that contain unnecessary material in violation of original research and Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate list. For editors, keep the following in mind:

  • This is an article, and as such requires credible sources to back up statements. Personal opinion has no place here.
  • Avoid making extensive lists such as weapons, as they violate WP:NOT.
  • Avoid using spoilers in sections other than the plot.
  • The game needs a proper overview. I haven't played the console versions, so I can't be of much assistance here. The previous overview is more of a plot summary, so an editor with more knowledge should split the section into a gameplay overview and a plot summary.
  • Finally, please assume good faith and be civil towards other users. --Scottie theNerd 16:53, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

If you have a problem with a game, Wikipedia is not the place to vent it off.

^^I sort of got rid of that or at least anything that alluded to it --Uzzo2 01:12, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cleanup, cleanup

I went over the entire article and removed redundancies, double spacing, and plenty of subtle criticisms that were shoved in it. Anything else that needs fixing?

The list of differences between story and game is needless trivia. I will remove it if there are no objections.--Scottie_theNerd 12:55, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Release dates

I was editing the infobox to edit in various release dates for different platforms including the Japanese release of the 360 version as well as all the release dates for the versions on the Playstation 3, PSP, and Wii which were previously missing entirely and added those little flags that come by release dates in various regions for movies and games because I thought it looked a little more presentable. It may need some serious clean-up, so if anyone who wants to change it, I'd encourage them to do so.

Also, I find it interesting that on IGN it listed the Limited Xbox version as being released in the US one day before the regular version. Am I missing something?

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Godfather Wii.jpg

Image:Godfather Wii.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] No gameplay section?

I'll start on it; it puts things like respect levels and rank into more context. --BrokenSphereMsg me 18:30, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Article cleanup

What has to go or can be culled down to bring this in line with WP:VG MOS standards? At this point for one I think the following can go/be changed:

  • Supporting characters can go
  • Mentions of specific members of the families within the families section can go and the descriptions rewritten
  • Cut down the details in the Holdings section on how to acquire them
  • Cut down the descriptions of new features added in the PS2, Wii and Xbox versions

--BrokenSphereMsg me 20:13, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

I added the tag, so here are my views:

  • Article needs a Plot section.
  • A Plot section would make the lengthy Families and Characters section redundant, so they can be trimmed.
  • Gameplay needs to be severely trimmed. As of current, it defines (in a wordy manner) every gameplay concept. To solve this, we will need to reference where the information comes from and give it due WP:WEIGHT. Most of the information can be summarised into one paragraph. It appears that the editors who added the information wrote it as off-hand knowledge, which is what I would expect (and have personally written myself) on a site like GameFAQs.
  • I agree that most of the differences between the console versions should be trimmed. Most of them are trivial.

--Scottie_theNerd 20:41, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Do you mean flesh out the plot section from beginning to end so the non-familiar reader can grasp the story? I have to confess that I added the detailed gameplay sections such as heat, vendetta, holdings, money, etc. as the only aspects detailed at the time were the families and character rank. BrokenSphereMsg me 21:29, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

I hadn't checked the article history, but I suspected it was you who added the extra information. Anyway, most of your additions have to go: they're not essential to the article. Most of the information regarding the characters can be placed into the plot section. The Families can go or, at the most, be incorporated in a sentence as part of the plot. Quite a few things can be sliced off without detriment to the article; others will need to combine sections to present more readable information instead of extensive lists of gamecruft. --Scottie_theNerd 22:51, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dying during Mob war

I thought one of the ways you lose a mob war is if someone from the rival family kills you, and not just if you die during the war. I remember dying during a mob war(a few times), and when my guy recovered, the mob war was still going on. I guess it also depends on how much time you have. Modesta107 (talk) 02:25, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

I've died during the PS2 version with lots of time left and Corleone businesses still get bombed and the rival families won. This doesn't happen often though since I save first before running to the FBI agent. Are you referring to if you die while trying to take over a major holding like a warehouse or hub and get killed by the guys guarding it? I always reload anyway when this happens and try to do it again without dying. BrokenSphereMsg me 02:35, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Possible Characters of the Godfather the game Page.

Since there seems to be many articles on wikipedia about the characters and since most of them are short.

I was wondering if its a good idea to merge all characters article onto one wikipedia article?

Most games like Final Fantasy and Bully have had this done for their characters.

Anyone else think its a good idea? Dan the Man1983 (talk) 06:56, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't believe the current articles have any notability to warrant even a collective article. --Scottie_theNerd 11:21, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't think its important for each character to have their own article though. They should all be listed on one article in my opinion. Dan the Man1983 (talk) 04:56, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
As I said above, I don't think the characters collectively deserve an article. Saying that "most games" have a character list article is an exaggeration; lists that are thoroughly developed are usually for games that are notable or the characters have established notability in their own right. Not every character list is notable either, and in the case of The Godfather: The Game, I don't think the game nor the characters have enough notability to put together a collective character list. --Scottie_theNerd 05:03, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
As they say, opinions vary. Most games that have a lot of characters are in them have lists for their characters. Dan the Man1983 (talk) 11:23, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

Al Pacino was NOT involved in the Scarface video game. I am removing that part of the article. General Mannino (talk) 20:02, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] DOS game

The game released on DOS is an entirely separate game; it has nothing to do with this newer game other than the branding. It should have its own article or the info removed from this article (apart from a passing mention of its existence). --Mika1h (talk) 16:59, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
