[edit] Album information

The album contains remixes of Spears' biggest hits, from "...Baby One More Time" to "Toxic", and also a remix (two for the Japanese edition) of her newest single, "Someday (I Will Understand)", originally a piano ballad that was an ode to her then unborn son, Sean. It also contains a new song, "And Then We Kiss".

"And Then We Kiss" was released in Asia only, where it charted in several countries. The song surprisingly appeared on Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart at #15, despite the fact that the song was not even officially released in the U.S., only for digital download.

[edit] Miscellaneous

The title was originally announced as Remixed and a cover was leaked onto the Internet, but it was not the final cover nor the final title used for the album.[citation needed]

[edit] Chart performance

Spears was not able to promote the album as she was pregnant. Because of this, the album failed to crack the top one hundred of the U.S. Billboard 200. B in the Mix debuted at number 134 on the chart, selling 14,077 copies in its first week of release. This is her first album not to receive any RIAA certification. The promo single "And Then We Kiss" received heavy airplay in Europe. The album also charted within the top 40 in Mexico and top 100 in the United Kingdom and Italy. The album has sold approximately 800,000+ copies worldwide.

[edit] Extended Copy Protection

In November 2005, it was revealed that Sony BMG was distributing albums with Extended Copy Protection or 'XCP', a controversial feature that automatically installed rootkit software on any Microsoft Windows machine upon insertion of the disc. In addition to preventing the CD's contents from being copied, it was also revealed that the software reported the user's listening habits back to Sony and also exposed the computer to malicious attacks that exploited insecure features of the rootkit software. Though Sony refused to release a list of the affected CDs, the Electronic Frontier Foundation identified B in the Mix: The Remixes as one of the discs with the invasive software.
