Tension fabric buildings are constructed using galvanized steel frame with sturdy PVC membranes. Once the frames are in place, a fabric cover is stretched over the frame. The fabric cover is tensioned to provide the stable structural support of the building. Tension wires are used to remove the slack in the fabric, creating a tight fitting cover membrane. The cover, made of translucent PVC material, can allow sunlight to pass through, creating a naturally lit environment if the owner wants natural light to get in the building to some degree. The benefits of tension fabric buildings include lower costs over traditional wood and steel buildings. Unlike conventioal or steel buildings, tension fabric buildings can be relocated. Although tension fabric buildings can span up to 200 feet by 700 feet, some buildings can be easily moved by the wheels mounted in tension fabric buildings or by the cranes.
Tension fabric buildings have become popular in many applications: When the value of the items are not of significant value, lower-end tensioned fabric buildings have been used for the agricultural market to store hay and feed, as horse riding arenas, and also used for warehousing and sand and salt storage in the domestic markets. Manytimes, the size of the buildings in this category is standardized because of mass demand. Often, industrial strength fabric covers, which last more than 20 years, have been used for higher-end tension fabric buildings in aviation industry, environmental management industry, marine industry, government, and military worldwide. For this category, individual tension fabric buildings are designed with CAD (computer-aided design)software for the customization of the buildings.
