"Other Bands" Section slightly inaccurate

Hi there,

I found a little mistake in the section "Other Bands". It states that "the duo" appeared in the Foo Fighters video Low, which is not true. Jack Black alone with Dave Grohl appears in this video. However, Jack Black *and* Kyle Gass appear in the Foo Fighters video "Learn to fly".

You're right. I deleted the reference. Thanks.

Drunken Mistake

"Power metal bands, like Meat Loaf, The Who, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath."... Power Metal like what!?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by {} (talk • contribs)

Power Metal like that produced like Meat Loaf, The Who, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, presumably. Evil Egg 22:41, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Broken link in References

Under the section The future and a possible third album the link in Reference 9 which comes after "Gass expressed his desire to curb his work with Tenacious D" is broken. And that's sad. I wanted to read it for myself.

Fixed. It was an Associated Press interview, so other websites featured it. CNN.com had deleted it so I found another news site hosting it.
Tenacious D Fans 19:06, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

It doesn't read to me like he really wants to curb work with the band. It's just comes off as an off-hand comment about going out on top. I doubt this is really the end of Tenacious D as the section somewhat implies as it's written now. Maybe it would be written more clearly and kept in?The Myst 12:48, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Politics

I think there needs to be some discussion on the D's politics. I am going to add a paragraph on it. If you want to help me edit it and improve it, here is the basic framework I followed. You can use the links too

Every single assertion is cited.

From, Sunday Times article ([3]):

"Occasionally, they have essayed something with a little more lyrical sophistication. They even wrote a political song for the film, but intuited it had no place in their comic world-view. It kept its berth on the soundtrack album, though. It’s called The Government Totally Sucks. Black is ambivalent about coming out against the neo-cons. “What good does it do? Literally every celebrity in America came out anti-Bush in full force before the last election. It might have actually hurt. I think the best thing I can do for anti-Bush is just to say nothing.” Gass thinks people say, “‘Who are Barbra Streisand and Warren Beatty supporting? I’m going for the other guy because they’re so annoying.’”

Bush will be gone in another couple of years, however. What is the future for Tenacious D, beyond the five-date tour of the UK in their diary? They are not prolific songwriters. At the going rate, their next album won’t appear until Gass is in his fifties."

You know... Im looking at that section and wondering if it really belongs. Clearly, Jack and Kyle have certain views, but as a band they are only statedly pro-cannabis and anti-authority. They never mention Bush or war, so I think the anti-Iraq War stuff does not belong at all. (the only reason Im posting rather than deleting is that its you who put it in there) Metao 07:41, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm also unsure whether the Bush and Iraq stuff is relevant to their identity as a band. MarkBuckles (talk) 02:37, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Peer Review

The Tenacious D Peer Review had some entries.

The main points raised were:

 • We need fair-use images, we currently have none
 • The format of references needs changed, to have them after the punctuation
 • Discography needs reformatted, I am taking this one on personally

Hi. Articles must be evaluated by an independent person. The nominator, or someone who has worked extensively on the article, is not an independent judge!, and thus cannot grant GA status. Hope this clarifies things. The JPStalk to me 18:01, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

I want to get some more tour pages set up for the D. Here are the relevant citations.

Influences

I want to start a paragraph on the influences of Tenacious D, ie who (in music) has influenced Jack and Kyle.

Jack says in an interview:

Simon and Garfunkel, Black Sabbath and Abba. It was Take a Chance on Me - take a chance take a chance - that was the first song I enjoyed.

In addition, when asked who Tenacious D has influenced, he says:

Oh, I really like The Darkness, and no I don't think we influenced them, I think we have some similarities though in that we both make fun of rock while loving it intensely. They're great though. I really love that song that I can't sing it here now. [then proceeds to sing a bit. Ed] Mother Hubbard! That was a freebie, a little private concerto for you…

[11]

In another interview, the discussion of influences with the Foo Fighters is raised:

The D are in the Foo Fighters' video Learning to fly and Dave Grohl played drums on your album. Has there been any mutual band influence?

KG: Actually, Dave said that his last record was completely influenced by us.

JB: Yeah, he gave us a little 'thank you'. One of songs on the album, 'Explosivo', was originally going to be a tribute to Kurt Cobain, but the lyrics were pretty bad. Dave Grohl came to one of our early shows and made it known that we were on the same page and that he wanted to be part of our magical mystery tour. And so we exploited that. And now… it’s just a love-fest.

KG: So now he doesn’t call much.

JB: Were you just taking a sip of water?

[12]

When asked about his influences he says he draws his inspiration 'from deep within the mind of the superfreak', and his favourite genre of character is the over-confident loser.

LOS ANGELES -- Tenacious D founder Jack Black sits in a suite at the Four Seasons Hotel in a Black Sabbath T-shirt explaining his musical influences. He doesn't want to be mocked, OK?

We made GA status

Tenacious D made Good Article status. We cannot rest with that and have to keep the improvements coming.

If you have anything to add, please cite it, if you are not sure about this contact me.

Tenacious D Fans (talk) 22:01, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Im starting to go through it for tidying up purposes. I did add one thing - the nickname being "The D" - but was unsure how to cite it because... well, its just too obvious to me ;). Im about halfway through I think. I want to redo some of the stuff in the first album section (it seems like some of the stuff about Tribute will be in that article), look at the "work" section, as well as figure out a way to have the Influences, Friendship and Lee sections flow a bit better. At the moment they feel like something tacked on the end. Also, it seems like there should be a lot more See-Alsos than just Trainwreck and Sax-a-Boom... Let me know if you have any contentions. Metao 09:43, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
I put the Tour section back in where it should be (maybe Politics should move there too?) and realised the next messiest thing in the article is the second album section. Ill look at that next chance I get. Metao 09:52, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
It looks very good. I'll help cite, "The D". Tenacious D Fans (talk) 16:01, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Do we really need IPA? Foo Fighters dont have one - unless you're Sigur Ros or Bjork, whats the point? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Metao (talkcontribs) 00:40, 1 February 2007 (UTC).
Also, the feature article nom states that the comparisons to bands in the lead are not substantiated later in the article. Metao 00:43, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
I think we need to show how the D is similiar to these artists. Tenacious D Fans (talk) 08:29, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
Also make sure to refer to them using their last names, not their firsts (e.g. Black instead of Jack) per MoS:BIO. ShadowHalo 06:16, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
I don't think the section about Lee is neccessary. If Dave Grohl has no section, why does Lee if they are equally influential to the band? Some info about Lee should be merged with the History section. Sfrostee 16 April 2007
They aren't equally influential. Dave Grohl plays drums for them on albums and such, but he isnt in the band. Lee is an honourary member/roadie/friend and part of the shows. Metao 07:57, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Why?

Why did Kyle Gass initially feel threatened by Jack Black? June-gloom 15:03, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

From what I have seen, he didn't like the fact Jack was musical. That was Kyle's skill. Tenacious D Fans (talk) 07:15, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

The Dust Bowl Cavaliers etc

I have listened to the Bluegrass wrecks the music of TD CD (through myspace and amazon) so I know what it is (ie the female vocals on Jesus Ranch etc).

However, I do not think this is suitable. There are many covers/remixes/tribute bands of Tenacious D (the now defunct Sidehatch, Share Torture Device Vs. Tenacious D's Manager and many tribute bands - I friends in one).

I have never seen any other band pages that list covers. Tenacious D Fans (talk) 20:56, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

agreed. Metao 00:28, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

None of this makes any difference you guys. If it does in fact relate to Tenacious D it's worth noting. This is Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.4.207.20 (talkcontribs)

Heavy Metal As A Genre

Do you think that some of Tenacious D's work might be classed as heavy metal, in reference to some of the tracks on The Pick of Destiny? Please tell me if you think I should add this as a genre. Thundermaster367 14:29, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I believe it was once there, and was removed. Metao 05:09, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Well I'm considering re-adding it. What do you think? Thundermaster367 11:58, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
Be bold. (in this case, this is a polite way of me saying that I dont care either way ;)) Metao 04:25, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm glad. Still, neither do I. You know I'm only here because I have to discuss it. Which I have. And we have reached a consensus. I am glad. Thundermaster367 13:03, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

How are they Heavy Metal? 71.108.161.29 (talk) 22:38, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Several tracks on the P.O.D album are undoubtably metal. For example, The Metal. However, as always, this is Wikipedia. It is unsourced information. Feel free to remove it. Metao (talk) 01:04, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Well if they have metal songs, let's keep it up there.I mean, I could just remove some of the others because they're unsourced and make the page look crap. 86.135.80.62 (talk) 16:02, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Guitar Hero and To-do List

I would add these two myself but I figure it's best to check first these days and I almost always put something in the perceived wrong place here and it gets moved or what-not regardless. So I'll drop both mentions and whomever can work them as they please. First being, that 'The Metal' has been confirmed to be in Guitar Hero III as well as being the forefront song on the first (I believe) official trailer for the game. I would think this deserves a mention on the page somewhere, albeit a small one.

Secondly, there is a mention at the top to-do list about the D previously having been on Saturday Night Live but the poster not being able to recall the date. While they weren't the "official" musical guest, they did perform two songs, and that episode was 445 (Season 23, air date May 2nd 1998). Since the site SNL Transcripts is used as a reference for the Matthew Fox episode, here is the link for the 1998 episode for reference. Thanks to all. --24.127.81.97 17:39, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Stoner Rock

Is this a stupid suggestion? I wouldn't think so as they have made many references to weed. ThundermasterThundermaster's Talk 08:35, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Yes, but those are clearly humorous and not intended to be taken serious. Also, Tenacious D plays rather fast.. way too fast for stoner rock.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 16:57, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Good point, stoner rock has quite a slow rhythm and Tenacious D are fast... yeah, you're right. ThundermasterThundermaster's Talk 11:30, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
That's not necessarily true. Stoner rock often changes temp mid-song, slow parts interlude with fast psychedelic tinged solos. Nevertheless, the D don't really fit the genre and afaik, and most importantly, I haven't seen a source classifying the band as such. Johnnyw talk 17:10, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
