Embeds and links
Hi, I'm looking for some advice about links and embeds. I see there are regular IMDB and TV.com links in the TV and film pages. I'm from the team developing the new film and TV search site LocateTV, which allows you to search for when a programme, film or actor is next on TV, online or on DVD, specific to your region. We also have embeds for bloggers to put straight on their pages linking readers to the content. I thought this could be a great addition to the Wiki pages but I understand there is a very unbranded / democratic feel to Wiki. Can anyone advise me if, considering other sites are routinely linked to, it would be possible to put these embeds up or just links? We don't want to tread on any toes!

Fair use images
I don't think Fair use images can be used on a page like this. They need to be used for critical commentary in an article etc. So they should probably go.--Commander Keane 09:11, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- I'm currently asking around about this. Because some Wikiportals have them while others don't. Jedi6-(need help?) 15:16, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- As far as I can tell we can use fair use images for the same reason the main Wikipedia page can. Jedi6-(need help?) 23:41, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
Selected article
I understand that Lost is popular, but shouldn't we start with Featured TV articles before we start selecting random ones? Staxringold 21:42, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
- What is up right now is just temporary until the portal is finished. I'll probably change it tonight. Jedi6-(need help?) 21:45, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
Bad colours
Hi! Sorry to say, but the colors are bad - on the dark background, the letters don't stand out. This, is, by the way, a typical error made by people using LCD monitors, where contrast is much better than on CRT, and letters more legible than the same content on a CRT (funny that this problem is related to television itself :) ). Well, please tune on the colours. I have no problem with the type of the colour itself, only their darkness! THX in advance in the name of all of us not having eagle-like eyes and using CRT monitors! Msoos 11:37, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- They look fine to me and I use a CRT. Jedi6-(need help?) 04:52, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
- I 2nd this. Don't forget about readability for the Visually Disabled either. If you are colorblind this green on blue can be terrible to read I imagine The DJ 02:42, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- Sadly we can't help everyone since their is several types of colorblindness so unless we use only black and white someone is going to have trouble. Jedi6-(need help?) 02:50, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- That's no a reason to not take some basic rules into consideration. And one of those is "Use contrasting colors". We are the only portal i EVER visited that doesn't use "black on light colored background". C'Mon we have to be able to find something that's better suited then this???? This can't be the last available color scheme for a Portal. The DJ 03:09, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- Oh I wasn't suggesting we don't change it only that we can't please everyone. Go ahead and be bold and change the colors. Azatoth choose these colors because my original chose was horrid. Jedi6-(need help?) 03:14, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- I think this is a lot better, though perhaps i should inverse the page background with the boxed background. Cause now links are a bit too unclear i think... Also i think we should take a bit of formatting from the Portal:Film. I'm going to bed now, I'll see in the morning. The DJ 03:41, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

tv shows
Is there a tv show project? I think scheduling of TV shows should be in a lower section instead of the first paragraph. TV shows go into syndication and get sold on DVD and cell phones. They also get sold in other countries. The scheduling does not tell me anything about the show. --Gbleem 19:45, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
Top article for TV portal
Hi, just come to this page so forgive me if I speak out of turn...
It's great to have a portal about TV shows (that's my interest) but I was surprised to see the 'top' article on the portal was about the history of TV, which (I'm guessing) is not otherwise the topic of the portal (or do I have the wrong idea?)
Having said that, not sure what would make a more appropriate one.. needs to be 'tv show overview' without focusing on any one show I guess...
BTW shouldn't the 'Selected picture' box have a picture in? --Mortice 22:36, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- You are absolutely right about the picture. --thedemonhog talk • edits 04:25, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps I misunderstand, but
discussion of particular television shows under a heading of "television" makes about as much sense to me as trying to lump discussions of particular novels under the the heading, "books." I mean, I can see including some kind of section or set of links, but . . . surely it would make more sense to focus on television itself rather than particular shows in that medium?
Speaking of which, I was rather shocked to find no mention of Marshall McLuhan . . . I'm not expert enough to add this kind of information myself, but I hope someone will . . .
Thanks to everyone working on this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Auralee (talk • contribs) 02:15, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Note going forward
In the midst of restructuring the Portal, going forward towards WP:FPORTC at some point soon. There are still some more structural changes to be made, and then I'll go ahead and flesh out the individual sections with more entries. The main thing is that there should be enough material in WP:TV project to only use WP:FA quality material in the Article and Biography sections at the top. Cirt (talk) 09:04, 29 December 2007 (UTC).
Done - Expanded entries in Article and Biography sections (all WP:FA content). Cirt (talk) 20:20, 30 December 2007 (UTC).
- To do
Cleanup/expand -- Main topics section. (Add in the "for further reading..." links from the Television main article ,and maybe some from article History of television.) Cirt (talk) 20:20, 30 December 2007 (UTC).-
Done - One down, one to go. Cirt (talk) 00:38, 31 December 2007 (UTC).Add at least (10) more pictures from Wikimedia Commons to Selected picture section. Cirt (talk) 20:29, 30 December 2007 (UTC).-
Done. Cirt (talk) 01:46, 31 December 2007 (UTC).
Did you know
I've gone back through the archives, back to Wikipedia:Recent additions 141 for entries for the Did you know section, but haven't yet gone further back than that. Cirt (talk) 11:09, 29 December 2007 (UTC).
- Update, when back through archives through til Wikipedia:Recent additions 125. Cirt (talk) 14:34, 30 December 2007 (UTC).
Articles and Bios
There is plenty of available content to use, therefore I specified in the instructions on the subpages that all content in the Articles and Biographies sections must be of Featured Quality Status content. Cirt (talk) 12:06, 29 December 2007 (UTC).
Portal peer review
- This portal has had a Portal peer review, which has since been archived. Please see Wikipedia:Portal peer review/Television for more information. Cirt (talk) 04:29, 4 January 2008 (UTC).
