Tarik El Taib, also written as Tareq Al Tayeb, (born 28 February 1977) is a Libyan football midfielder who, as of 2006/2007 season is playing for Al Hilal Riyadh. He is known for his flashy dribbling and playmaking skills.
[edit] Club career
He started his career in Libya with Al Ahly Tripoli. There, in his first year, he played 26 matches and scored 11 goals, coming off 3rd in the 1997/1998 Libyan Player of the Year award (he then went on to win the award five times in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2005).
In 2000 he went to Juventus and made several 2nd team appearances in late 2000 and 2001 before a deal worth more than 700,000 euros saw him move from the Italian club to Tunisian side Etoile Sahel. He played 65 games there, scoring 27 goals. 2003 and 2004 were his arguably the best years of his football, after he came respectively 5th and 6th in the African Footballer of the Year award.[citation needed]
[edit] International career
He is widely regarded as Libya's saviour[citation needed] and has captained the side during the 2006 World Cup Qualifiers and the African Nations Cup.
In the Championship Manager video game, his name was rendered as "Tarek Ettayeb".
