[edit] Career

By December 2007 Mitchley had scored 25 goals in just twelve matches for Blackpool Youth and Reserves teams, and despite only just having turned eighteen years old he was already being tipped to play for the first team. In December 2007, Blackpool manager Simon Grayson stated that Mitchley had been training with the first team squad and had already travelled with the squad, when he was included in the squad that went to Scunthorpe United.[1] In December 2007, Simon Grayson confirmed that Mitchley would be training with the first team over the Christmas period and that he was close to a first team call up.[2] On 4 March 2008 after having scored 35 goals in the 2007-08 season Mitchley was offered his first professional contract, together with youth team captain, Ashton Bayliss.[3] On 6 May he won two awards at the clubs annual presentation night:

  • Blackpool Supporters Association Young player of the year
  • Chris Muir Memorial Trophy for young player[4]
