Tampa Bay Times (tbt*) is a free daily newspaper published by the St. Petersburg Times. It appears five days per week -- Monday through Friday -- in a tabloid format.[1]

Known primarily as "tbt*", the paper launched in September 2004, as a weekly, then increased its frequency to five days per week in March 2006. The company says the newspaper is edited for a time-pressed, younger audience. Stories are briefer and "edgier" than a traditional newspaper. Articles cover state, local, national and world news as well as sports, entertainment, lifestyles, and business. In fact, tbt* looks at news in some unusual ways with sections like the Juice*, Sports Talk, and World in a Snap that shows events entirely through pictures.

Distribution runs over 365,000 copies per week[2]. The paper is available at free racks throughout the Tampa Bay area, including Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and surrounding areas.

tbt* is an example of the free daily newspapers that have sprung up in major cities in Europe and North America. Others include AM New York, Quick in Dallas, Express in Washington, D.C., Metro in Boston, and numerous others.
