While on route to the fictitious city of Angel Grove, California, T.J., who was traveling with Cassie Chan, runs to the aid of Pink Ranger Kat Hillard, who was attacked by the villain Divatox, and ends up fighting off a group Pirahnatrons with the help of Cassie. Because of his bravery and his assistance in saving others (including Tommy Oliver), Tommy picked him to lead the team as the new Red Turbo Ranger. Although he was a capable team leader, he ended up having one of the worst final showings of any Red Ranger. The end of the series saw the destruction of two megazords, one of which was set to self-destruct per his order in a failed attempt to destroy a foe, and the loss of two vehicles.

Making his way into space to pursue Divatox, he meets Andros, the Red Space Ranger from a distant planet. Although not initially receptive of their presence, Andros would later give the four remaining Turbo Power Rangers new powers that matched his own, and T.J. would become the Blue Space Ranger and second in command of the team, and in turn give leadership of the team to Andros, due to himself being unfamiliar with outer space. During the course of the series T.J suffered at least two serious head injuries. The first incident was when he was attacked by Darkonda, which left him with temporary amnesia. The second occurred when Psycho Blue nearly killed him, placing him in the intensive care unit aboard the Astro Megaship. He would remain the Blue Space Ranger for the remainder of the series and would participate in the final Battle against the United Alliance of Evil.

[edit] In Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy

He was also in the Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy episodes "To the Tenth Power," arriving with Cassie, Ashley and Carlos to aid Andros and Lost Galaxy Power Rangers against the Psycho Rangers, and "The Power of Pink," intending to spend some down time on Terra Venture with the other Rangers. He fought next to fellow Blue Ranger Kai Chen He and the Space Rangers continue to fight alongside the Galaxy Rangers against Deviot and Psycho Pink until Kendrix's sacrifice, then returning to their duties to protect Earth.

[edit] In Power Rangers: Wild Force

T.J. made his final appearance in the Power Rangers: Wild Force episode Forever Red, where he, as the Red Turbo Ranger, and nine other Red Rangers defeated the remnants of the Machine Empire, the main villains of Power Rangers: Zeo. It is unclear as to how he was able to use his Turbo Powers, but it is generally assumed that his powers came from the Lightning Cruiser, providing him with a fully-capable Turbo Morpher, similar to Justin's appearance in Power Rangers In Space.

T.J. is either retired on Earth, active as the Blue Space Ranger, or possibly the Red Turbo Ranger.

[edit] Notes

  • According to the episode Passing the Torch, Part 2, he wanted to be a Power Ranger since he was a kid.
  • He was a huge fan of baseball, and (alongside Carlos) was part of Angel Grove High's baseball team.
  • T.J. was the first known African American Red Ranger (as well as the first known African American Ranger team leader). This would be repeated with Jack Landors in Power Rangers: S.P.D.
  • In Power Rangers: Turbo, a robotic duplicate of T.J. was created, complete with Ranger powers. The fate of this robotic Power Ranger's remains unknown, and may have been erased from continuity, or been destroyed by the United Alliance of Evil's attack on Eltar.
  • According to Spirit of the Woods and The Curve Ball, T.J. is left-handed.
  • In the episode "Five of a Kind", he disguises Andros, Ashley, Cassie, and Carlos as the Blue Space Rangers to beat the Psycho Rangers.
  • T.J. does occasionally assume the position of leader during Power Rangers in Space, most notably in "Astronema Thinks Twice"/"The Rangers' Leap of Faith," and "Five of a Kind." In the latter, it is T.J.'s strategy that defeats another Psycho Ranger. In the former, the rangers appear to believe Andros incapable of making rational decisions where his sister is concerned. However, in Megaranger, MegaBlack, Carlos' Sentai counterpart was the second-in-command, not MegaBlue, T.J.'s counterpart. This follows a similar issue back in Power Rangers Zeo, as Adam's Sentai counterpart, OhGreen, was second-in-command, but Power Rangers still treated Rocky, Zeo Ranger III - Blue, as second-in-command, as he was formerly the Red Ranger.
