A symphysis is a fibrocartilaginous fusion between two bones. It is a type of cartilaginous joint.
Unlike synchondroses, symphyses are permanent.[1]

- the pubic symphysis
- the symphyses between the bones of the skull, most notably the mandible (symphysis menti)
- sacrococcygeal symphysis
