[edit] Recent additions (03/2006)

Will finish the recent additions to the Syaoran article later today or this weekend. Was going to write it all this session, but something has come up. --Crisu 21:16, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

Okay, it's finished now, with some extra proofreads, thanks to Peacewish and Violeteves. --Crisu 17:30, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
nice work! -- Ned Scott 01:26, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
Gack. Very nice article, but I have to say, Syaoran is NOT, I repeat, NOT Clow Reed's descendant. If that were the case, Li would also be part British (albeit very far back). Clow's Chinese mother's family, the Li Clan, is where Syaoran is descended from; therefore they share a common ancestor and are thus distant relatives. Seriously, they go over this in episode eight, Syaoran's debut into the anime CCS. (Clow never had any children, or at least not any stated in CCS.)

Update: I added a character box summarizing important information about Syaoran. It's basically the same as that in Sakura's article.PeRiDoTs13 22:07, 13 September 2007 (UTC)-->

Not sure if you're still there, but that actually is incorrect. You said it yourself "Clow's Chinese mother's family, the Li Clan, is where Syaoran is descended from", which makes him a descendant of Clow Reed. While he may not be a direct descendant, he is a descendant none the less. Just wanted you to know that, hehehe. AjaaniSherisu (talk) 02:25, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Name order

Why is it written here as Syaoran Li? In the Japanese original it would be Li Syaoran because family name comes first in Japanese. In the American version of the anime, Li comes before Syaoran as well, but this time it is because Li was made his personal name. Naming the article Syaoran Li is consistent with neither. -Jacob, 2 May 2006

I think the ruling is, because this is the English Wikipedia, the Western name ordering applies. Naming this article Syaoran Li is consistent with every other character's articles (e.g. Sakura Kinomoto, Meiling Li, Takashi Yamazaki). Personally I do want the Japanese ordering, too, but I think this opinion is in a minority here. --Crisu 02:12, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
Yep, according to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles). -- Ned Scott 05:02, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

It should be Li Xiao-Ran; Shi is spelled Xi in Konglish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.161.122.193 (talk) 03:40, August 25, 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Spoilers

The tsubasa section really needs a spoiler advice, at least on the part about Syaoran and his clone.

Put a spoiler tag before the whole section just to be safe. --Crisu 03:47, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Syaoran's father

The trivia section says Syaoran's father is never mentioned.

In Syaoran drama CD there's a conversation between Sakura and Syaoran in which he actually says his father passed away when he was very young.

I'm not sure but... I have the latinamerican version of the series(which is not censored) and Wei says Syaoran's father passed away. I don't think it was added in the english subbed version.

In in the manga Syaoran tells Sakura and Tomoyo that his father passed away when he was young.

in episode 19 Wei tells Sakura and Tomoyo syaoran's father passed away. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.223.168.86 (talk) 23:15, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Incantations

I think the CC and CCS incantions are inverted. 火神招来 breaks down as Fire God invitation, and the others are similar. (In addition, "God of Thunder, Heed my call" is what I always remember seeing in the subtitles.) Since I'm almost positive this is the case, I'll go ahead and make the necessary alterations. --Curtmack 02:00, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] CLAMP's ignorance?

Well, this is not about article content, but on Syaoran's name. I just wondered, if Li was given to be from Hong Kong, why would his name be in Mandarin Chinese, not Cantonese (which would make him Syuron, per kana)...? I suppose it's CLAMP wrongly believe in the HK fantasism prevalent in Japan...? --Samuel Curtis-- TALK 05:55, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

  • That has a certain truth to it, but you could argue that not all HK people speak Cantonese, some speak Mandarin only. And perhaps Syaoran's family was from the mainland and moved to HK sometime in the past. We'll never know of course because the dialect is not hinted at during the dialogue, especially during the first movie when it was all in Japanese (but one of the theme songs where in Mandarin). I suppose CLAMP's only crime is in the stereo-types they gave to Syaoran-kun (as per clothing) and the animé guys pushed that further. --Charlie Huang 【正矗昊】 15:53, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

They did say that his family moved to Hong Kong in one of the first episodes he was in. I don’t know if they said where they moved from though. --Tyrfing 00:08, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Syaoran's information with Tsubasa

When writing the information for Syaoran in Tsubasa, especially when using informtion from Cardcaptor Sakura we should refrain use the anime version as Tsubasa's storyline is relying mostly on their manga for their characters.--Jazz18910:03, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Where does it say that Sharon paid his freedom and time for Watanuki? (ReshenKusaga 19:01, 6 July 2007 (UTC))
In Chapter 116 of TRC, it is said that Syaoran paid the relationship, freedom and time, apparently to go to where the clone Syaoran is. However, Yuuko then told Watanuki that Syaoran paid a price beforehand to save him, something that 'took a long time'. Hm...maybe I should delete the part where it's said this was why he was captured by Fei Wong Reed. Though it's pretty obvious that the freedom and time is referring to his captivation, it was not confirmed in a sentence. I'll leave it for now.Sumhtun 11:48, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Incantations

I believe that they are important as they were/are (haven't checked) in the Sakura article. It makes the article look nicer and it is not making the page obsesively long. trainra 09:47, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

I had removed them partly because they were very trivial, but I have no strong feelings about the matter now. -- Ned Scott 06:36, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Are the 'Answer My call' ones correct? I always thoguht they were Shourai spells like in TRC, and only used that in the second movie dub. Ggctuk (talk) 08:49, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Voice Actor

I looked and I couldn't find the name of the voice actor(s) that played Li in the english version of Cardcaptor Sakura, called Cardcaptors. Can someone add this?CureHeart 23:40, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Shaoran

Shouldn't his name be spelled Shaoran? That is how it is spelled in the subtitled DVD releases (not dubbed, subbed) from Pioneer. It is also the far more commeon name on Google, getting almost twice as many hits as Syaoran. It is also more accurate considering the original Japanese name also used Shaoran. Lrrr IV 03:21, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Either is correct and official. Syaoran was used in the manga and original DVDs, Shaoran in the uncut DVDs.PeRiDoTs13 21:25, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Name addressing

I wonder if it's really necessary to create a whole new section describing how Sakura changed the way she addressed Syaoran. Can't we just state that Sakura changed from the neutral "Li-kun" to the much more personal/intimate (choose a suitable word which means their relationship is now closer)"Syaoran-kun". There's really no need to create such a huge section talking about a simple name change. It becomes more of a SakuraxSyaoran shrine than an encyclopedia entry on Sakura. Comments? For/against taking the section off? Sumhtun 04:09, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Character Section

Should the character/history section be edited so that information about Sakura is removed (i.e. Sakura's feelings about Yukito, etc.)? After all, this is Syaoran's history, not Sakura's.PeRiDoTs13 21:25, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Tc calendar.jpg

Image:Tc calendar.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] New article with Syaoran from Tsubasa?

I think the article should be split into two - one for CCS Syaoran Li and one for TRC 'Syaoran' and his clone, since there's a lot of information to warrant the split in my opinion (I also think the same should be done to Sakura's article) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.166.17.12 (talk) 12:38, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Okeday! We now know Syaoran and Syaoran Li are completely separate characters, so we should put TRC Syaoran into his own damned article already! Ggctuk (talk) 07:49, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm going to go ahead since I hear no protest and separate the article. The TRC Syaoran info no longer belongs in Syaoran Li article. Ggctuk (talk) 12:59, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
If you're going to make separate articles, make sure you mention on both pages that the characters the character's 'other appearances' in each other’s storylines. It helps the article if you mention other anime that a character may show up in, even if it's not exactly a 'guest appearance' such as in this case when one character is loosely based off the other. 3loodlust (talk) 22:48, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
