Since the assets and earnings of a Swiss Verein are controlled by the member firms, Swiss Verein borrowers should provide a lender with guarantees from member firms or backup Letters of Credit.

I don't know anything about this subject, but I came here from the KPMG Wiki page where it says KPMG is no longer a Swiss Verein; it was for that reason that I've just deleted KPMG from the list of Swiss Vereins. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 136.159.188.66 (talk) 04:58, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] This article only describes special cases of Swiss Vereins

In Switzerland (and Germany), a "Verein" is a organizational structure intended for and primarily used by non-profit organizations. See http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verein#Schweiz for more details in German. There are thousands of Vereins in Switzerland. A fitting English translation of 'Verein' would be 'club'; typically, local sports clubs or hobby groups are organized this way. Using the legal structure of a Swiss Verein by some US companies is more a side effect of this.

I'm not sure how this should be addressed. In my opinion:
- The article should be tagged as 'US-focused'
- The German article 'Verein' should be translated and transferred to the English Wikipedia, and this article included in it
- Alternatively, a disambiguation page could be created.

Based on feedback, I may add these changes later.

Looks like we had the same thoughts... I just made a little reorganisation of the article before having seen your proposal here. Feel free to improve the article... --Mbimmler 16:32, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
