Talk:Swimming at the 2008 Summer Olympics

[edit] POV section (Morning Finals)
This is unprecedented in swimming, as finals are always swum at night and any change would mean a drastic change of habits for athletes who have been racing at night their whole lives. Response to the announcement from athletes has so far been mixed. While racing in the morning would mean a new strategy, the decision allows athletes almost two years to adapt to the new schedule, and all swimmers would be affected equally. Australia, home to many of the world's best swimmers, is unhappy with the decision by the IOC, as it would have a negative effect on viewing figures both in Europe and Australia, and claims that sporting schedules shouldn't be the decision of a broadcasting network.
This needs citing as, to me as someone who knows just about nothing about Olympic swimming, it fails to explain the significance of a change and who (other than the editors involved) thinks this is a "drastic" move. Regards, SeveroTC 17:27, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] US and Aussie Olympic Trials
I do not believe this is the proper place for this information. While the US and Aussie swim teams win a large sum of medals, I don't think the trials for individual countries should be included here. I think this sets a standard that any national trials can be discussed here. Image this page having about 150 to 200 Olympic Trials sections. I think this content should be removed and placed in different sections (if not already existing). RonSigPi (talk) 05:19, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm certain that they will be seperated in the near future (especially for Australia since they are coming very soon).72.241.2.141 (talk) 05:18, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Aussie Section
Now we have an Aussie section for qualifiers. Again, doing this for every country would make this page a disaster (in my opinion). While I know qualifiers are shown for many sports, in Athletics which is another time sport, just standards are shown. I would suggest adding two different link systems. A first link to 'Olympic trials' that can have links to pages for the events of different countries. The time standards can link to event pages for the 2008 Olympics that have qualifiers for each event. This way people can see qualifiers by event. If someone has an objection or a better system, then please speak up. I just think the way this page is going it going to become very messy very quick. Unless provided a reason otherwise, I will make these changes in about the next 72 hours. RonSigPi (talk) 14:25, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
