"Sweets for My Sweet" is a song written by the songwriting team of Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman[1] and was originally recorded by The Drifters and released in 1961.
In 1963 it became the debut single A-side by Merseybeat band The Searchers. It made number one on the UK charts in the summer of that year and held that position for 2 weeks.
The song was a hit in Spanish by Manolo Muñoz in the 1960s, under the title, "Dulces Para Mi Nena". Other big hits for Muñoz included "Ay Preciosa" (a cover of Orbison's "Pretty Woman") and "Bikini Amarillo" (Brian Hyland's "Itsy Bitsy . . . Yello Polka Dot Bikini").
It was later covered by Neil Diamond in 1993 and later by C.J. Lewis in 1994.
