Swansea Leisure Centre is a leisure centre located in the city centre of Swansea, Wales. Swansea Leisure Centre re-opened to the public on 1 March 2008 after a £32 million makeover and rebranded as the 'LC'. The leisure centre's exterior has been revitalised by replacing the old concrete panels with clear glass, translucent glazing and timber panelling.

The new leisure centre contains an indoor waterpark consisting of a network of pools, water rides, and slides, including the Master Blaster and the Surf Rider, which is an indoor surfing ride.

A lazy river allows children to body surf and there is an interactive pool with play equipment and a toddler teaching facility in the Lagoon Pool.

A new multi-purpose sports and exhibition hall for sports, conferences, exhibitions and concerts is included in the new design. The gym facilities have been upgraded to include a fitness arena, a health spa and treatment centre and two aerobic studios.

There is a new poolside café, four-storey Playzone, party and function rooms and a nine-metre climbing wall.

The centre was officially opened by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh on 7 March 2008.

The royal visit will be a case of history repeating itself as it will be the second time The Queen has officially opened the building, the first time being more than 30 years ago when it was known as Swansea Leisure Centre.

[edit] History

The old leisure centre, at the same site, was opened in 1977 and hosted a range of leisure activities, including a swimming pool with wave generator and hydro-slide, bowling greens, and number of mixed-use halls. In its heyday, it was one of the top 10 visitor attractions in the UK, in the same league as Madame Tussaud's.[1] It was closed in 2003 after it was found that the facilities were in a poor state of maintenance.
