Survivor Series (2006) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It was the twentieth annual Survivor Series PPV event, and it took place on November 26, 2006 at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The official theme song was "Are You Ready?" by Hazen Street.[2]
The main event and main match on the SmackDown brand was King Booker defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Batista, which Batista won via pinfall after hitting Booker with the World Heavyweight title. The predominant match on the card was Team Cena (John Cena, Bobby Lashley, Kane, Sabu and Rob Van Dam versus Team Big Show Big Show, Umaga, Test, Finlay and Montel Vontavious Porter in a 5 on 5 Survivor Series match, which Team Cena won after Cena pinned Big Show last after executing an FU. The main matches on the undercard included Chris Benoit versus Chavo Guerrero for the WWE United States Championship and Team DX (Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Jeff Hardy, CM Punk and Matt Hardy) versus Team Rated-RKO (Edge, Randy Orton, Johnny Nitro, Mike Knox and Gregory Helms) (w/Melina and Kelly Kelly) in a 5 on 5 Survivor Series match.[3]

[edit] Background
The main feud heading into Survivor Series was WWE Champion John Cena and Umaga. Umaga was Cena latest challenge after Cena finished off the feud between King Booker and Big Show at Cyber Sunday. Cena was destined to end Umaga's winning streak since his debut. On the November 13 edition of Raw Cena and Umaga finally fought in a singles match, but it was interrupted by the ECW Champion The Big Show forcing it to a no-contest.[4][5]
The secondary feud was the main SmackDown! feud between World Heavyweight Champion King Booker and challenger Batista. Batista relinquished his World Heavyweight Championship in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Wachovia Center on the January 13 edition of SmackDown!, the same exact location of Survivor Series because of a triceps injury.[6] King Booker had already faced Batista and retained his championship at two pay-per-views since his return on July 7. This time, Theodore Long announced that the match at Survivor Series would be Batista's last chance to win the championship.
The ECW brand was building up their "Extreme Elimination Chamber" match. The contestants that were named to face the ECW Champion The Big Show were: Rob Van Dam, Sabu, CM Punk, and Test. The final contestant was revealed on the November 21 edition of ECW. It was Bobby Lashley, and he attacked Big Show during the in-ring segment.[7][8]
Another feud was between The Undertaker and Mr. Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy beat The Undertaker at the previous pay-per-view, No Mercy, by disqualification. On the November 10 edition of SmackDown!, Kennedy challenged Undertaker once more bragging that he beat 4 World Champions. The match was made into a First blood match.[9][10]
[edit] Event
The non-televised match only fans in the Wachovia Center saw was a match between Carlito and Charlie Haas. Carlito won the match with a backcracker.[11][12]
The first match of the night was a 4-on-4 Survivor Series match between Team Spirit Squad and WWE Legends. Team Spirit Squad included Kenny, Johnny, Nicky, and Mikey, with Mitch overseeing the match and managing team. WWE Legends, a term used for veterans who are still involved with the company today, consisted of Ric Flair, Sgt. Slaughter, Dusty Rhodes, and Ron Simmons. They were accompanied by Arn Anderson. The first man eliminated from the match was Ron Simmons, because he was counted out. The referee immediately kicked out Arn Anderson and Mitch following the elimination.[12][13] The next men eliminated were, Sgt. Slaughter (WWE Legends), Dusty Rhodes (WWE Legends), and Nicky (Spirit Squad). This left Ric Flair to deal with three Spirit Squad members, Mikey, Kenny, and Johnny. But Flair eliminated all of them, giving the WWE Legends team a victory. After the match, all members of the Spirit Squad attacked Flair.[14]
The following match was a singles match between Chris Benoit and Chavo Guerrero for the Untied States Championship. During the match, Vickie Guerrero was knocked off the apron when Chavo kicked Benoit away who was attempting a Sharpshooter.[13] Chris Benoit defeated and retained the title by making Chavo submit to the Crippler Crossface.[15]
Next on the card, was Lita's last match as a wrestler. She faced challenger Mickie James in a Women's title bout. Mickie James got the victory with a Tornado DDT.[12][13] After the match, Cryme Tyme came out and sold Lita's personal belongings to the Philly audience which they stole in an earlier backstage segment.[13][12]
The fourth match was another traditional Survivor Series match, which was a 5-on-5 bout. Team DX consisted of Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, and CM Punk while their opponents were Team Rated-RKO. They were consisted of Edge, Randy Orton, Johnny Nitro, Gregory Helms, and Mike Knox. Before the match even began, Triple H looked at Mike Knox's girlfriend, Kelly Kelly who was ringside teasing taking her top off.[11] Mike Knox took notice and confronted Triple H. Triple H eventually went back to the apron with the other team members, but when Knox turned around to go back to the apron, Shawn Michaels did his signature superkick, Sweet Chin Music to an unsuspecting Knox. Michaels pinned him for the immediate and first elimination. The next person out was Johnny Nitro, submitting to CM Punk's Anaconda Vice.[11] The Hardys eliminated Gregory Helms with the Twist of Fate and the Swanton Bomb. The next elimination was another man from Team RKO, Edge. Shawn Michaels did the Sweet Chin Music finisher to him, leaving Randy Orton all alone against the 5 members of Team DX. Orton tried to run away, but was put back into the ring. Randy Orton was eliminated when HBK did the superkick followed by a Pedigree by Triple H for the win. Team DX completed a clean sweep of Team RKO, meaning that all five men from Team DX were still left standing at the conclusion of the match. This was a first in Survivor Series history.[13][16]
The fifth match was a First blood match between Mr. Kennedy and The Undertaker. During the match, Kennedy started to cough up blood, but Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP) came and gave Kennedy a towel, and cleaned the mess it had made in the ring. Referee Charles Robinson did not notice that Kennedy was bleeding, so the match went on.[17] The finishing moment was when MVP, got a steel chair, Charles Robinson tried to take it away from MVP, but the ref was pushed and MVP with Undertaker causing him to bust wide open and lose the match.[13] After the match, The Undertaker took revenge by hitting Kennedy with a steel chair and delivering a Tombstone Piledriver to him.[11][12]
The following match was the third traditional Survivor Series match and the second 5-on-5 match of the night. Team Cena (John Cena, Rob Van Dam, Sabu, Kane, and Bobby Lashley faced Team Big Show (The Big Show, Test, Umaga, Finlay, and Montel Vontavious Porter). In less than a minute, Umaga was disqualified when he used a tv monitor to attack Team Cena.[13] Then, MVP got the boot after a chokeslam by Kane and a Frog Splash by RVD. Test immediately attacked RVD and pinned him, making it 4-on-3. Test got eliminated following a big DDT by Sabu 6 minutes into the match.[13][11] The Little Bastard ran though and was a distraction, causing Finlay to hit Kane with the shillelagh. Big Show pinned Kane to make the match 2-on-2. Lashley eliminated his first man, Finlay with a spear. Cena and lashley teamed up on Show. They delivered a DDT, and the match finished with John Cena giving his finisher, the FU to Big Show, eliminating him. Team Cena therefore won the final Survivor Series match of the night.[12][18]
The final match of the night was a World Heavyweight Championship match between King Booker and the challenger, Batista. The stipulation was that if Batista lost, he would not have another chance as long as Booker was the champion. Theodore Long announced before the match, if Booker had been disqualified or counted out, he would lose the championship.[13] Batista went after Booker right when he was entering the ring. Batista nearly powerbombed King Booker's wife, Queen Sharmell, but tossed her aside instead. Booker was about to use the belt, but Batista ended up using the belt and hitting the champ. Batista made the pin and was the new World Heavyweight Champion.[11][19]

[edit] Aftermath
The following night on Raw, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and Ric Flair defeated all 5 members of the Spirit Squad. They were sick and tired of the Spirit Squad, so in a backstage segment, DX locked the male cheerleaders in a travel case and sent them to Ohio Valley Wrestling in Louisville, Kentucky via delivery man. That was the end of the Spirit Squad faction.[21][22]
As for DX's teammates at Survivor Series, The Hardys were challenged by the newly reunited team of MNM (Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury). Eventually, they would have a tag team match, at December to Dismember.[22][23]
Victoria earned a shot at the Women's Title, by defeating Melina, Torrie Wilson, Maria, and Candice Michelle in a battle royal.[24] She eventually lost to the Women's Champion Mickie James at New Year's Revolution.[25]
WWE Champion John Cena was challenged by the undefeated Umaga the next night on Raw.[24] Cena accepted the challenge and they had the WWE Championship match at the next Raw pay-per-view, New Year's Revolution. Cena defeated Umaga's winning streak to retain the championship.[26]
The following edition of SmackDown!, General Manager Theodore Long announced Kane versus Montel Vontavious Porter in an Inferno match and The Undertaker versus Mr. Kennedy in a Last Ride match.[27] This led to the reunification of the Brothers of Destruction versus Kennedy and MVP on the December 15 edition of SmackDown!.[28]
The ECW main feud, was between The Big Show and Bobby Lashley who signed a contract to be in the Extreme Elimination Chamber match on the November 14 of ECW.[29] At December to Dismember, Lashley became the new ECW Champion at December to Dismember by winning the Extreme Elimination chamber match.[30]
