The term superposition can have several meanings:
- the superposition principle in physics, mathematics, and engineering, describes the overlapping of waves and can show how either constructive, or destructive Interference will occur. Particular applications include:
- Quantum superposition, in quantum physics
- Superposition theorem, in electronics
- the superposition calculus, used in logic for equational first-order reasoning
- the law of superposition in geology and archaeology, which states that underground layers closer to the surface were deposited more recently
