Sunrise Radio is the United Kingdom's first Independent Local Radio station catering specifically for the Asian community. Dr Avtar Lit is the chairman, but the station is run by one of his sons, Tony Lit who has also appeared as a newspaper reviewer on Sky News and who stood unsuccessfully for the Conservatives in the Ealing Southall by-election in July 2007.[2]

It initially broadcast in Central London on 1413 kHz. Now on 1458 kHz from the Brookmans Park Transmitter north of London.

Sunrise also broadcasts to Coventry, Wolverhampton, Edinburgh and Glasgow and is also available Sky Channel and on DAB nationally.

Sunrise describes itself as "the Greatest Asian Radio Station in the World", a slogan that features prominently on the station's jingles.

Sunrise Radio actually started out as a pirate radio station in London, in the 1980s [3]. Sunrise Radio has now released its television channel Sunrise TV which is available on Sky channel 830.
