[edit] Summary
- Summary: St Dunstan's church, Stepney Green, London
-
- St Dunstan's church in Stepney dates from not long after Stibba, the Saxon warrior who gave Stepney its name, first landed. This is Stepney parish Church and dates back to the tenth century. Dunstan (c. 909 – 988), was made Bishop of Worcester then of London and finally Archbishop of Canterbury in 961. He is reputed to have pinched the devil's nose with iron tongs, hence the carving on the right hand side over the doorway into the church
