The name as it appears is actually in error. There should be two words, the second of which was truncated by accident. The origin is a Russian choir director's book recently re-published by Holy Trinity Monastery at Jordanville, New York. Ooops! I discovered another spelling error. First, see above for publisher information. The ""Sputnik Psalomschika"" was originally published in pre-revolutionary Russia as a choir director's reference filled with texts and melodies used for special feasts during the Orthodox Church calendar year. The title means rather literally ""Choir director's companion."

FWIW, wherever it appears on the Web, it's translated as "Cantor's Companion". --tyomitch 22:50, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

I have studied the choral practices in the Russian Orthodox Church at Holy Trinity Monastery, in Jordanville, New York. The book is easy to use, if you read Church Slavonic and the special music notation used by the Russian Orthodox Church.
