The Sprain Brook Parkway is a 12.65-mile (20.36 km) long north-south parkway in Westchester County, New York. It is one of the newest and most modern parkways in Westchester County, adopting many ideas and improvements developed during decades of statewide highway construction. The southern terminus is at the Bronx River Parkway in Yonkers. The northern terminus is located at the Taconic State Parkway in Hawthorne. All of the Sprain Brook is designated New York State Reference Route 987F, an unsigned reference route, by NYSDOT.
The parkway forms the eastern edge of the Sprain Ridge Park in Yonkers, giving the parkway its name.

[edit] Route description
The Sprain Brook begins at the Bronx River Parkway on the west bank of the Bronx River in Yonkers. About midway between its termini, the Sprain Brook splits to straddle the Grassy Sprain Reservoir, with northbound traffic traveling on the east side and southbound traffic on the west. The parkway interchanges with multiple Westchester County arterials, including Interstate 287, before terminating at the Taconic State Parkway just south of where the Taconic interchanges with the Saw Mill River Parkway.

[edit] History
The Sprain Brook and Taconic Parkways were built as completely separate highways, and at the time of building, the southern section of the Taconic kept its name, but few signs still show the name today (it is usually signed as the northern part of the Bronx River Parkway nowadays).[citation needed] The original plan was to connect to the Saw Mill River Parkway, but in 1980, the Sprain was connected to the Taconic instead, making the two appear to be one highway.[citation needed]
