The proposed Sparta Branch would be an NJT operated rail line that runs from Hoboken, New Jersey, on existing NJT rail through Paterson, New Jersey. North of Paterson the Branch would leave the main line via an existing connection to the current New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway main line. The NYS&W is currently a single track freight line with many passing sidings that sees limited use. NJT rail service would be extended through Pompton, Butler, West Milford, Green Pond, Stockholm and teminating at the long abandoned Sparta Rail Station. Future service may be extended serving Franklin, Hamburg McAfee, and Vernon.
