"Huguang (湖广)" refers to the three provinces, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, and one autonomous region, Guangxi, of China. I have never heard of a category of "Southwestern madarin" as people in these different provinces and regions have different accents from one another. Is there any citation for this article?
