[edit] Away Kit

away kit colours have changed for 06/07 season... do not edit back to the yellows, we are now black and red see http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=6993

[edit] Leon Best

Pardon my ignorance, but why is Leon Best showing an Irish flag against his name in "out on loan", when his article says he was born in Nottingham and doesn't mention anything about playing for Ireland? -- Arwel (talk) 20:05, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

I believe that Leon has played for the Republic of Ireland's U21 team. Jjd27 21:29, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

His mother is Irish, and he has indeed played for Ireland at U21 level. Dan Kerins 01:35, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Kyle Critchell & Craig Richards

The official Southampton FC site (http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/team/?page_id=5) has Critchell & Richards as first team players (without numbers), although there is no mention of them on this page. I've added them onto the squad at the end. Chris Larkin 19:06, 01 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Scummers Section

Does anyone think that this section should be moved to form an article on its own, incorporating a list of players who've appeared for both teams?

--Daemonic Kangaroo 07:14, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Good idea, but arent "Scummers" the fans rather than the players? Nexus Icon 14:58, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

This section is now rather out of date. The section was moved to an article of its own some time ago, and has been renamed South Coast Derby. Scummers and Skates: The Southampton-Portsmouth Rivalry was deemed to be unacceptable as the title for an article. Hey Ho! Daemonic Kangaroo 17:13, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A note on British English

British English should be used for articles on Britain related topics. Likewise, American English should be used on articles pertaining to American topics. For a clearer example, please visit this sub-section on the differences between their usage. However, is" works better than "are" with the term club as it is a singular and not a plural noun. (Compare with the word team which is a plural noun) --Siva1979Talk to me 13:33, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Club honours

Why is there not a list of our cup and league achievments like other teams?

[edit] Famous Fans

DCan we either clarify that Sir David Frost is a Saints fan, or remove his name? Many believe he is, but many also believe he is an Arsenal fan Nexus Icon 14:58, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Danny Floyd, Musician was added by someone. I've had a look on Google and other than a myspace page, can't find him anywhere, so I don't think he really qualifies as a 'famous fan' until it can be proved otherwise. Dan Kerins 11:57, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Club Records

I've moved these higher up, as I thought they were rather more important than a list of famous fans and the like. Dan Kerins 02:18, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Intro

I suggest cutting down the intro. It looks to me that there is too much in there, most of which is replicated later in the article. Why do we need a list of ex players in the intro? Dan Kerins 12:34, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

I agree entirely. I'm sure that with a bit of work we can bring this article up to a much higher standard. There are too many lists for my liking, many of which could be relegated to sub-articles. Daemonic Kangaroo 12:50, 13 April 2007 (UTC) p.s. It's good to see someone else prepared to declare his colours as a Saints fan.

I've made a start on the intro, but as will always be the case, a bit of tinkering from others won't hurt. Good point about the lists. I was looking at Arsenal's article and that is the sort of thing we should be aspiring to, I reckon. Dan Kerins 07:06, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] General Improvements

I've gone a bit mad tinkering with various things today, and it's got me thinking we need to decide on exactly which bits need work to get this article up to scratch. I reckon a shorter history section, (have a sub article instead), fewer notable players, no-more famous fans unless part of a more general supporters section, a section on the kit and brief description of how it's changed over the years and more about the crest and anthem. Would it be possible to get records for the individual managers too, like a lot of other clubs have? Any other ideas or thoughts? Or am I just being stupid? Dan Kerins 18:10, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Just thought - more pictures were relevant, especially on things like the badge/kit/fans etc. Dan Kerins 18:11, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

I've created a new page entitled History of Southampton F.C., with the hope of having a shorter history on this article and a more in depth one elsewhere. All I've done so far is copy and paste the history over, but haven't touched this article yet. Dan Kerins 17:10, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

- Made a table for non-playing staff, but want to verify the content before sticking it up (particularly the nationality of all the board members. I've stuck it on my talk page for the time being if anyone can help. Dan Kerins 14:08, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Crest

They're threatening to delete the crest., so I've uploaded a new one with a fair-use rationale (and it has a black border on the halo - the other one didn't and looked a bit funny IMHO). Dan Kerins 11:06, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Trust

I was never sure about how appropriate a section on the trusts was, but someone has now completely removed it without discussion. Anyone think it should be there, or do they think it's better left out? Dan Kerins 09:18, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

As the edit was by User:Amber spyglass9096, whose other edits are all vandalism (see Paul Ince), I have re-instated the trust section, albeit lower down the article. I certainly think it has more merit than the "Famous supporters" section. Daemonic Kangaroo 12:06, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
p.s. Please add new subjects at the end of the page as is customary on WP. This is best done by use of the "+" symbol on the tool bar at the top. Thanks.

[edit] Notable Former Players

Do some of these really qualify as notable? For example:

  • Belmadi
  • van Damme
  • Fuller
  • McCann
  • Quashie
  • Keller
  • Østenstad

Dan Kerins 12:48, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

If we set the criterion that they should have been full internationals whilst with Saints, then some of these should go. I have deleted Lezama & Ali Dia on these grounds. We will need to go through the others and check each one out. There are also players from the more distant past who maybe should be included; e.g. Arthur Chadwick - more research is needed! Daemonic Kangaroo 14:35, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Southampton-FC.png

Image:Southampton-FC.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

BetacommandBot 18:30, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

I amended the fair use rationale as requested, but the image has still been deleted regardless, without any further explanation. Dan K 06:28, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
I have uploaded a new version of the crest - hopefully the rationale is acceptable, as it's the same as used for many other club badges. --Daemonic Kangaroo 06:56, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
