[edit] Robert Moses

This article should link to Robert Moses and his construction of the Cross Bronx Expressway. This project ultimitely evicted over a quarter of a million residents from their homes in the projected pathway of the road and cut off the southern part of the borough from the culture of the other parts. This separation directly caused the poverty of the neighborhood (and influenced the poverty of Harlem).

The Cross Bronx Expressway cut through East Tremont, not the South Bronx. The Bronx was already beginning to suffer from white flight and poverty at the time, and East Tremont was actually viewed as relatively stable. I suppose you could argue that the Cross Bronx Expressway pushed the South Bronx northward, but at the time, East Tremont was not the same as Melrose or Mott Haven to the south.
