The South Island Party is a small regionalist political party in New Zealand. It advocates South Island Independence. The party's leader is Richard Prosser, a contributor to Investigate, who has previously called for a regional Parliament for the South Island[1].
The party was founded on the belief that there is still substantial residual support for its predecessor[2]. It is currently attempting to gain the 500 financial members necessary for registration so it can contest the party list in the 2008 election. It has applied to receive broadcasting funding[3].
