Kym Anthony Parsons (born 9 July 1971) is a New Zealand political activist and Wikipedian living in Perth, Australia. Kym is a strong supporter of the South Island Independence Movement, who advocates the dissolution of New Zealand and the creation of the independent state of Zealandia in the South Island.
[edit] Early life and family
Kym was born in Nelson, New Zealand to middle class parents. His family history can be traced back to England.
Kym attended Parklands School in Motueka and Nelson College in Nelson.
Whilst still at Nelson College he attended training with the 2nd Battalion (Canterbury, Nelson-Marlborough and West Coast), Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment and after leaving school he embarked on a military career within the New Zealand Army. In 1989 he graduated from the Army's Regular Force Cadet School in Waiouru and was posted to the 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment at Linton military camp, near Palmerston North. Later in his career he transferred to the 10 Transport Squadron, Royal New Zealand Corps of Transport before discharging from the Army in December 1993.
Kym returned to his home town of Motueka and worked in a number to transport related jobs before being employed at his fathers' automotive workshop. In 1998 he migrated to Australia where he has continued to be employed in the transport and logistics industry.

[edit] Australian Trade Union involvement
Kym first became involved with the trade union movement whilst working for Australia Post. His genuine concern for the fair treatment of fellow employee's saw him progress to being a representative of the Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union of Australia (CEPU) and a member of the Western Australian Branch Committee of Management. He resigned from Australia Post and the CEPU in November 2007 after being offered a position with TNT Express. He is currently a financial member of the Transport Workers Union of Australia.

Kym is a supporter of South Island Independence and has proposed that all the New Zealand possessions south of Cook Strait should be formed into the independent nation of Zealandia. Zealandia would comprise of the South Island, the Chatham Islands, Stewart Island, the Sub-Antarctic islands and the Ross Dependency.

Kym has designed a Zealandia Flag, which comprises a Nordic Cross with white background representing the Southern Alps, with a green cross representing the lush bush and farmland of the South Island and blue representing the ocean.
The general impression is reminiscent of the flags of the Nordic nations.
