  • Flag of Thailand South Thailand insurgency: A gun battle between Royal Thai Army soldiers and suspected insurgents left five rebels dead in Yala Province. In another incident, two soldiers guarding a railway were killed in an attack. A bomb went off in Narathiwat Province, killing one person and injuring six. Also, two men were killed by gunfire sprayed at a house. A bombing at a police booth in Songkhla Province killed one policeman and hurt nine other people. (AP via CNN)

  • Flag of East Timor Scores of homes have been burnt in the districts of Viqueque and Baucau , amid protests triggered by the appointment of new prime minister, Xanana Gusmao. Gangs of youths torched buildings, forcing people to flee, reports said. Fretilin won the most seats in polls in June, but was excluded from government after Gusmao formed a majority coalition and was named prime minister. (BBC)

  • Flag of Thailand Access to YouTube is restored in Thailand, after the Ministry of Information and Communications Technolgy said it had been assured by the video-sharing website that viewers from Thailand would be blocked from seeing images that are illegal in Thailand. YouTube had been blocked since April, after a video deemed offensive to King Bhumibol Adulyadej was uploaded to the site. (Nation)
