Slayer (スレイヤー Sureiyā?) is a character in the Guilty Gear fighting game series, making his first appearance in Guilty Gear XX. He is a rather tall vampire, though unlike most vampires, he seems entirely unaffected by sunlight (daywalker). He is apparently incredibly powerful, as he spends each entire round casually smoking his pipe; his instant kill attack is a spinning uppercut which if it hits, suddenly changes the screen to a placard bearing a static view of the galaxy, followed by Slayer saying a haiku, followed by a brief flash on the placard, before panning back to the battlefield, where the enemy is mysteriously gone. If defeated, he merely lies on the ground looking upset, sometimes saying the opponent's performance was "so-so", rather than being unconscious. He is also accompanied, largely, by his wife Sharon.

[edit] Story
[edit] Background
Slayer founded the Assassin's Guild, but disappeared shortly thereafter. His original intentions, like many notable founders of Assassin's Guilds in fiction, were altruistic. Unfortunately, he finds, upon returning, that his syndicate is far from his original idealistic view of it, and decides to dismantle it. He seems to be connected to Gabriel in some significant way, and seems to know quite a lot about various political affairs, most notably the Post-War Administration Bureau (PWAB). He personally knows "That Man" and that character seems to hold him in high regard since he apologizes to Slayer. He also, apparently, has some connection to Sol Badguy, although this may just be a product of Sol being alive for an extended period of time.
[edit] Guilty Gear XX
Slayer's Story Mode begins with a visit to Ky Kiske, claiming that it is "customary for the king of the night to ask for permission from the protector of the day before venturing into the sunlight." He has the apparent motive of either observing the cast, or warning them of being targeted by the PWAB. He has three endings: in one, he defeats Eddie, who wanted to possess Sharon. In the second, he faces Venom, and explains that his victory was because of hesitation in Venom's heart. In the third, he defeats I-No, and has a brief conversation with That Man about current events.
[edit] Sharon
Sharon is Slayer's wife, and apparently immortal and invincible; she can survive getting drained of blood by Slayer without any apparent lasting effects (one of Slayer's opening scenes before a battle shows him completely draining her, apparently so she won't be hurt in the upcoming fight). In one of Eddie's endings, Eddie melts after attempting to possess her, and I-No (who set him up to this) comments, "Illness, parasites... Nothing sticks to her." Sharon's exact nature remains unknown.
[edit] Music References
Slayer is named after the band of the same name. Several of his attacks (Under Pressure, Dead On Time, All Dead, and It's Late) are named for Queen songs. His Undertow is named for an album by Tool, while his Royal Hunt is a Danish metal band.
