Jorge Fernandes also known as Silas (born September 1, 1976 in Lisbon) is a Portuguese footballer. He currently plays for Os Belenenses.
Silas first made his name at União de Leiria, with whom he achieved a series of top 6 league finishes and made the Cup final in 2003. He also spent some of his Leiria career working under Jose Mourinho. During his time here he won three caps for Portugal, making debut on 3 April 2003 in a 1-0 friendly win over Macedonia. He later played in friendlies against Paraguay and Bolivia.
He signed for newly-promoted English Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2003 for an initial fee of £1million. Despite then-manager Dave Jones splashing that amount of cash on the midfielder, Silas endured a frustrating time in England - failing to settle and also failing to establish himself in the Wolves squad. During their doomed season he made a mere 9 appearances in the Premier League, 14 for the club in total.
At the end of that season he joined Portuguese First Division club CS Marítimo on a season-long loan, making 17 appearances and scoring 3 goals. The following season, still not featuring in the Wolves manager's plans (now Glenn Hoddle) he was loaned out to another Portuguese club, this time Os Belenenses.
At the end of the 2005/06 season, having made 28 appearances for Belenenses and scoring 7 goals, he decided to make his move permanent - joining them on a free transfer as his contract at Wolves had expired.
