Dot line computer printers use shuttle mechanisms to build a line of dots (dot row) by moving the print mechanism horizontally whilst rendering dots. Different manufacturers use different techniques. For example, Tally (or TallyGenicom) use a small patented mechanical device with very high inertia to provide a wide range of fonts and graphics resolutions.
