Shing02 (born Tokyo, 1975) is a Japanese born rapper/producer most well known in the United States for his work on Samurai Champloo. He is currently a member of: Freelancers Utd., Kosmic Renaissance, and The Knocks. Shing02 is credited with creating the FaderBoard, now produced commercially by Vestax.
Shing02 was the son of a trading company employee and grew up in England, Tanzania, and Japan. He moved to San Francisco, CA in 1989 at the age of 15. In 1993, he began attending UC Berkeley and became immersed in the local hiphop scene. In 1996, Shing02 travelled back to Japan, where he partnered with Mr. Higo of independent label Mary Joy Recordings. Shing02 has also worked with other popular underground Hip-Hop artists such as Murs, SupremeEx, Tajai, as well as prominent artists such as Ghostface Killah, and El-P. He also is an artist participant in Stop Rokkasho. He now lives in Oakland, CA.
