Scriptural sense

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Scriptural sense can be defined as the sense of scriptural understanding being guided by rules of intrepretation. In some Bible schools, colleges or institutions these rules of interpretation of scriptures are studied as under Biblical Hermeneutics or simply known as Hermeneutics . In a narrow way scriptural sense can only be achieved correctly as guided by the Holy Spirit who is believed by Christians to be the true Guide. The Holy Spirit is considered as the Author of all spiritual truth in the biblical sense.

In the syntactical discussions in the Talmud, the discussions are based on the oral transmission of the details to be found in the Old Testament also known as the Five Books of Moses. An example of the purpopse of the Talmud or ( gemmorah) is in the Old Testament , It states an" eye for an eye". The Talmud translates this with the definition. Look under the Hebrew words, there is a system called Gematria, this is the Hebraic system of mathematical equivalencies for meaning in life. The description then of an eye for an eye is , you pay for the loss of sight , the loss of work , the embarrassment , the permanent loss of work, and finally Medical bills. The answer being any frivolous use of the term an " eye for an eye will lead to a blind world.

Apart from such nonsensical interpretations using an arbitrary device by Jewish scholars, the New Testaments evidenced Jesus as an example of sensible usage of the scriptural sense when he refers to that particular phrases taken in a wrong context. A scriptural view is like when Jesus said, "an eye for an eye" pointing the literal view and challenge to the context of the purpose Mosaic laws which punished the criminal with 'an eye for an eye'. Jesus explained in his own parable with the "I tell you" authoritative point of view<POV> that God gives us the brain<mind> to understand scriptures, and contextually the Mosaic laws are God given laws with a purpose to the end to teach sinners as a school Master toward Messiah who reveals the Laws of God as contextualized in the human terms when in the historic event of the life and times of Jesus, God became Man in Jesus. An eye for an eye in the right sense means a sinner must take a serious treatment in regard to sins such as if the eyes caused the sinner to sin then it would better to have the eyes removed then to burn in hell for eternity. It used an allegorical meaning to explain than a mere literal view. Just in a parallel approach with trying to teach the importance of eternity and hell, Jesus clearly pointed out "what shall if profit anyone to gain this world's riches and loss his soul for a senseless eternity?" Human beings have only 365 days a year and in one hundred years a person have 36,500 plus a few leap year days to live, if that person could survive that long. However, compared to an eternity with no hope and without possibility of return to heaven, and that is for ever or an endless time, surely that is a valid real context with any sensible believer in the Bible and teachings within. Jesus is the Master interpreter of all scriptures when truly we accepted his authority as from heaven.
