[edit] Administration & Structure
The Scotland Rugby League have announced that their domestic competition will have a new look, aims and objectives for the 2006 summer season.
Six sides - Paisley Hurricanes, Moray Eels from Lossiemouth, Fife Lions, Edinburgh Eagles, Glasgow Bulls and Easterhouse Panthers – will kick off on 6th May; the top four taking part in play offs with a Grand Final scheduled for 29th July.
For the first time, the competition will come under the organisational umbrella of the TotalRL.Com Rugby League Conference, the UK competition which also England and Wales, which begins its ninth summer campaign in late April.
The RLC will provide administrative and promotional support for the Scots during 2006 with a view to the Tartan division becoming an integral part of the burgeoning competition the following year.
Mark Senter, Rugby League Development Officer for Scotland, welcomed the move. “The idea this season is to run the Scottish domestic league as a pilot for becoming a full division of the RLC” he said. “If that trial is successful it will subsequently see us sending our title winners into their play offs.”
“It is a very important move for the game up here because it makes the competition more meaningful for the players and brings in minimum standards on and off the field.”
“There is growing interest in the sport up here, we fielded an application from a seventh side for this year and will be looking for a division of eight when ideally we formally join the Conference next season.”
