Scan to Home

[edit] Scan to Home

The "Scan to Home" functionality on many MFPs (Multi Function Printer/Product/Peripheral) these days allow the IT department easily to configure MFPs to restrict users only to scan to its own Home folder using AD (Active Directory).

This feature is used along with that IT departments have some security concerns.
• Can a user log in and automatically scan to their network Home folder without seeing other users folders?
• Can Add-Hoc scanning be disabled?

How it will work:
Within Active Directory the network administrator has the ability to store a users Home directory within the Profile Tab.
A network user walks up to the MFP and input its Active Directory User ID and Password on the MFP and authenticate itself. Once the scan button is pressed the panel will display the personal Home directory automatically.

"Scan to Home" and "Scan to Me" are usually used at the same time.

Note:
Depending on the capabilities of the machine and User rights, the function can be combined with LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) search, using pre-defined "One Touch button" or "Speed Dial" button or typing in e-mail addresses manually. FTP, SMB (Server Message Block), DFS (Distributed File System (Microsoft)) or any other scan function might be possible as well, but this is NOT the target of this function due to security concerns.
